I am regretting being a mage
I am getting more end more frustrated, especially during boss fights. I do little to no damage, the sorceries are boring, I keep putting points into intelligence using the meteorite staff but it is still underwhelming. I am thinking in using a larvar tear and re-espec my character into a boring all strengh character and be done with it.

Maybe Im missing something that could change my opinion? On top of that there are some sorceries that have a crazily high intelligent requisite, I have to put points into other attributes to make the character viable, not everything into intelligence, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥!

First What Level are you? second what staff and talismans are you using? and what spells?
Maun Rah Mar 13, 2022 @ 1:25am
you can put more points into endurance so can carry heavier armour, you can also start wielding a melee intelligence scaling weapon there are so many weapons which can be so good used in hybrid builds. you just need to add some point sinto dex or strength depending on the weapontype you want to use.

When you take a "basic" weapon which can be customised with ashes of war than you can ofc also just put magic affinity on it.

Mages are underwhelming compared to these badass melee builds, it's true.

What level are you ? change your staff, meteorite staff is fine at the beginning but once you can up a staff to +15 and more it falls off hard.
Then what sorceries are you using ? Try using magic glintblade, it's way better than the glintshards you get at the beginning.

Because there is 2 Sorcerer Damage Boost Talismans one give 4% and other 14% damage Graven School graven Mass Talisman and if you can get your hands on the Radagon Icon that give you way more cast speed ( you can also level dex for more cast speed) and (also you can grab the Lusat's Glitstone staff (make spells cost more but also do more damage) And i do highly recomend doing the quests for soceries, but yes it can feel dull at first but when you get more mana and higher level spells you will relese how completly broken and OP you can Become.

you if you play a propper bleed build or Auto Bleed build not a single caster can out dps it sorry.
Bleed still stays the strongest damage in the game so far

As someone that played one of those boring strength builds for majority of the game, it's weaker than basic magic. With the right weapon upgraded you can do decent damage but the slow attack either makes it so you miss openings on quicker bosses or punishes you with sweeping attacks from slower bosses. With magic, you can theoretically pick bosses the apart using fp efficient magic or dots, with strength you just suffer through with the few openings you are given.

Now, I'm not saying there aren't better melee builds, it's just the good stuff that is easy are all centered around dex with bleed/frost wombos.

I just finished the last boss without dying solely because I was going an INT build

meteorite staff is dog water and its true only 10% of spells are viable. Try the wiki and find cool spells that's all I got

15 int was too rich for my blood, maybe I'm just playing the game wrong because like every decent looking greatsword requires some int.

Meteorite staff is only amazing in the early game 'cause it effectively comes pre-upgraded, but an actual properly upgraded staff will outclass it, so the thing has a shelf-life. in general the higher requirement spells are a luxury you really don't need unless you're going for the Comet Azur meme build.
just get your basic damage spells and a decent variety of options that are good for some things (like Loretta's Greatbow for alpha strikes, and Ambush Shard for bypassing shields)
and a decent weapon with a magic or frost infusion to get some int scaling online, then you're set for good times~

So you have
1. Bought all the recent sorceries,
2. Upgraded your casting focus with latest available materials
3. Heavily invested in INT,
4. Are also using a proper INT scaling weapon like the moonveil or are using INT scaling ashes of war.

And you are still doing crap damage?

File a support ticket to Bandai Namco. Sounds like a bug.

15 Int is tiny. if you dismiss weapons because of a piddling price like that then you'll miss some really good stuff

It depends on the compatibility of your sorceries and relation between equipment use and stat disposition. Generally covering aspects regarding fights is necessary for a sufficient build. For example, a set of moves that cover range, quick casting, aoe, short range, or etc on top of correlating armor types and talisman that compliment your stats is what determines your power. Simply put more thought in what you're fighting and how. I and plenty have been able to make an entertaining build like a dragonkin or rock blaster 9000 build.
