One-Eyed Greatshield : IN DIRE NEED OF SKILL STAT-SCALING
Why? Why doesn't this mortar scale with ANY STATS WHATSOEVER?

Not INT, not FTH, nor ARC, STR, DEX or the rest!?
Where is the justice? The balance!?

Moonveil scales to the moon with INT, because "magic wave"!
Why doesn't this bloody firebomber scale with FTH, given the fire?
Or even a physical stat, if not that?

WHY?
I love this thing so much, but it has a flat limit on its damage output that few other weapons do for their projectile arts! Best you can do is boost skill damage via talisman (Shard of Alexander), fire damage via talisman (Fire Scorpion) and a flat-damage boosting FTH buff fore +20% to fire and physical for 30 seconds at the same cost as a single shot of this thing (Flame, Grant Me Strength)...
And a flat boost to ALL damage, once more, from a talisman at full HP or low HP if you're ballsy enough to dare use such.

So you have to bump at least 15 FTH for the buff which lasts a mere half-minute, as well as sacrifice at LEAST 3 slots for talismans, all just to get the most damage out of this mortar's shot as you can... Because WOW. ZERO STAT SCALING.
Not to mention the STR required to wield it and the END to hold such a heavy thing...
And every shot eats up like 90% of your stamina gauge to boot, so this thing is by and large designed for ambushes/first-hit encounters or big-brain strats.
Because not only does it eat massive stamina chonks to fire, it has a LONG mass of idle frames post-firing that leaves you vulnerable as heck to being slammed by bosses and backstabbed by players.

Don't believe me, folks? Test it yourselves using your stat-altering talismans and armor.
This is unbelievable. FFS.

More than half the weapons and spells in this game are completely useless, it's like it was never playtested.

There's spells you find in Farum Azula that are weaker than spells you find in the first 10 minutes of the game.

There's 0 sense of progression except for the fact that it feels like some bosses have a "level check" where if you're not over a certain level you'll get one shot, I'll go in the same fight 10 levels later with the same exact gear and now the boss is a breeze, never experienced that in other FromSoft games.

I'm peeved. This thing is garbage in higher levels due to the absolute lack of stat-scaling for the mortar's shot.

In PvP, it rarely kills. Only dudes with like 20 VIG or less dying, it's bloody frustrating to just watch them roll backward and chug a heal to full HP right after landing a tricky shot on them.

This thing is slow AF and has a heavy arc. It's HARD to hit a moving and wary target, basically impossible if they use Bloodhound Step or the like. Doesn't help that it uses so much stamina to fire and has such long post-cast idle frames that they can, again, retreat and heal before you've even readied another shot...
After they were knocked down.

This is just absurd. It suffers even harder in PvE, due to the lengthy post-cast idle frame BS and the total lack of scaling. I love this mortar, but my gods it is just so BAD

I suppose that being a cannon it doesn't scale for the same reason that crossbows and ballista don't. there's logical reason to it, though it's absolutely a game design mistake. having some ranged weapons lack stat scaling is not a good thing and makes Bows the better weapon full-stop.

Agreed, kinda? I feel the issue is more that any high-impact weapon which uses mana, not ammunition, and has such a short range and long-arse reload/refire should 100% scale with something.

Like, this thing lobs a 100% fire-element shot. It's essentially a pyromancy incantation.
I have legit tested, found similar spells to the effect that can be fired more rapidly and for pretty well the same damage... And they don't even cost 80-90% of your stamina gauge to toss.

Heck, they even fly further through the air.
This mortar is a depressing, MP-draining, stamina-slashing joke.

I feel like it'd be fair for the devs to decide that "it uses FP, it's not a mundane cannon, it can have scaling" heck, the idea of having "spectral ammunition" for crossbows/bows that costs FP instead of ammo and has scaling would actually be pretty interesting.

Agreed, but it'd devalue crafting to some.
Could make like... A whetstone-like thingy, to change the crossbows and make them eat FP instead of ammo; grant them some scaling in addition.

Pretty sure some Ashes of War do similar already for bows, FP aside?

Didn’t read all your post but overall that is dumb imo too, if it has an effect should have corresponding scaling stat but what do I know, I’m not Miyazaki lol
