Uchigatana - Unsheathe - Vertical Strike Only

Keyboard/Mouse User - maybe I screwed up key settings? I can't get a horizontal stroke, just a vertical when using unsheath with the Uchigatana.

I ask because I've seen videos showing the person doing unsheathe using both vertical and horizontal strikes.

2 hands - hold shift and right mouse - left mouse then does vertical strike. Can'[t figure out horizontal.

that would be a different ability. probably double slash by the sound of it. you can change around abilities for different weapons, but not on specials. the uchigatana can have its ability changed if you dont like that one (but it is a reasonably strong one)

Are you saying it only does vertical strikes? I just watched another vid demonstrating 'unsheathed' and all he did was vertical. So maybe the previous video I saw was doing something different even though they claimed it was 'unsheathed'.

R1 does the vertical, R2 does the horizontal.

I will add that I have rekeyed my R2 to F. It is kind of impossible to do it just on the mouse.

AFAIK the Sheath which has a strong attack (vertical) and a horizontal attack (light & I think breaks guard better than kicking in DS3) is glitched on Keyboard controls.

It works perfectly for me on controller and I remember seeing a thread where someone else found out it was glitched on Keyboard/mouse for some reason with the basic keybinding.

It works fine, tap, or hold your ability key to sheath, then heavy attack for vertical , light attack for horizontal attack.

I rebound my keys so unsure what they are at default.

What is 'R2'? What's the action? I never use controllers?

R2 is the power attack, for keyboard and mouse, its shift + left click

THANKS ALL, and especially DDD. I think I have it figured out now and will do what DDD indicated. Move strong attack to something else.

The problem was Skill and Strong Attack both used shift.

You're right, the default keybindings are incompatible with dual-mode weapon arts. You need to rebind the skill key to something else (don't use shift), and then use lmb for the light version and shift+lmb for the heavy version.

With the default bindings you have to be holding shift in order to be in the stance to use unsheath, so you always end up using the heavy version because shift+click is heavy attack.
