So is brass shield the best medium shield in the game ?
Kinda bs considering that you can get it pretty early on.

why its best ?

Yes, no other medium shield will have the same stability when it's upgraded. But the drawback is that it's also somewhat heavy.

From a blocking standpoint, I think so.

There's an inverted Heater Shield that's lighter, but not as stable, and doesn't block the non-physical attacks as well as the Brass Shield.

Inverted hawk Heater master race!

Yes I haven't found a single medium shield as good as it.

It is heavy as hell like 7-8 pounds IIRC...

But it is easily the best medium shield in the game...

Ya could just put barricade on any of the shields and negate stamina damage entirely. If you're using a shield, you're using the shield's skill anyways and barricade lasts a good bit and is cheap.

srry not that far in the game yet so im not sure what that does :P generally i prefer the Parry action because some enemies are extremely easy to parry or counter, especially red phantom npcs

Barricade shield is far, very far, from negating the stamina cost of blocking. Bosses will still put you out of stamina in 3-4 hits with it, instead of 2 hits without. That's with the confessor's starting shield. With the brass shield it's already much better.

while were on the topic of shields, does upgrading them no longer increase stability? i see no change in guard related stats when previewing the stats from +1. i know in previous souls games guardboost/stability would go up as u upgrade them

From my experience the brass shield is the best but i dont know if there are more to find later on which are maybe even better. So far with barricade on it it´s pretty amazing.

you don't get extra stability on every upgrade level, gotta invest more
