Can someone explain how Multiplayer works?

I played through the entire game, almost twice now, and have never been invaded, while solo or multiplayer, nor summoned as a hunter despite having the rings on the whole time. Gold Summon marks appeared when I use the flurlcaling remedy, but only the first day the game was out, and I've never seen one since, despite constant attempts. Both when invading or using the summon stick, sometimes I'll be called away immediately and repeatedly, then it will just stop for hours at a time for no perceivable reason. I don't understand how this system works in the slightest, and would appreciate it is someone could shed some light on things so I can actually get matched with some people since I have zero friends to play with.

activate all summoning pool pole things then use gold effigy
this will send your summon sign to all active pools in the
make sure cross region play is enabled in system -> network settings



you only need to activate pools once - not every time
right now im sitting in cealid with some pools active and i get summoned somewhat frequently into the different caves
cave pools usually easy to find as they are near the grace at the entrance or just a little bit further in

Not particularly. I've already beaten Elden Ring, I'm very familiar with how the system should work. I'll certainly try turning on cross-region play in hopes of expanding my prospective playerbase, but that does little to explain things like why summon signs no longer appear, or why the effigy won't work.

some areas seem to get locked out of coop summon signs after the boss is dead
but i had little luck with those overall - and only when coop´ing with specific people /specific locations
even then its spotty and i sometimes have to use multiple remedies for the message to show up

do you get a message saying your summon sign is being sent after the effigy is used near pools you activated ?

Yeah, the messages show up as they should, and again every minute or so to let me know its still searching. But nothing ever happens. Honestly, calling people into my world is less an issue, I like playing solo, but I'd like to invade/help people, and even that doesn't work.

You invade into a group of meta user gankers, you die immediately due to how broken some art of wars are and then get t-bagged cause they think they're chasethebro by pressing one button. Welcome to Elden Ring.

It also only seems to summon you to the region you are in.

So even if you activated all the summoning pools in limegrave, you need to currently be in limegrave to get summoned to them. If you are at the volcano regen and use the effigy, you can only get summed to the volcano region summoning pools.

It also seems to be level based, like traditional summons, so if you over level an area, you get nothing. I had more luck putting a traditional summon sign in front of boss doors unless I am just out actively exploring various regions.

there is down-scaling involved which makes sense instead of being locked out of coop completely

i got summed for academy / renalla while being lvl 120+


while i dont know the level i should be for capitol city - im lvl140 now
i still get plenty of summons after effigy use
the downscale is noticeable at times

You too high a lv? You have to be within a certain % of everyone in the area.

I know there is down scaling with password summons, but I have no idea how it works with other summons.
