ELDEN RING
Rennala Fight is just dumb...
Like...idk wtf I am doing wrong here. I get in to phase 2, and no matter what, i cant dodge her damn first blast...or rather she manages to murder half my HP before i can get out of the way...and no, im not fat rolling.

The damn wiki guide says to run toward her at a 45 degree angle to dodge it...which is bs. That never works for me.

The wiki guide says she is weak to physical damage...to use lone wolves or something better...

My wolves are at rank 4, my weapon is at rank 7, i even slap lightning damage on it for some added bonus...

But like...nothing is working.

I get her down to the point where she starts summoning...and my wolves just decide to stop attacking her, and attack her summon instead for no reason.

And whenever she does target me...she never uses a melee attack that I can counter...Im never given an opportunity to break her poise and crit her.

Ive tried delaying my own summon until she starts hers...that never works...she just laser beams me...Ive tried letting my wolves have more aggro...but they just die faster because she targets them with that damn orb...

I doubt its my level..sure im only 62 but ive got 29str, wielding a str based weapon...

ive got 22 vigor but still get 2 shot...

Margit made me rage quit...until i learned that using the npc they let you summon for the fight increases HP...beat him.

Godrick made me want to kick my dog...

But this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ fight just makes me want to uninstall the game....like it makes me so angry that i just become devoid of emotion and just stop playing video games all together for several days...

Am I under-leveled for this fight? Do I just need to go farm levels/gear? I seriously doubt its a gear/level problem. Ive seen people on utube do this fight with lower levels and less gear....so I know its possible. Am im missing something super obvious?

And for the love of god...dont just tell me to get good. Not everyone here is a Souls veteran.

lvl up your weapon more. increase vigor. use a bunch of stuff that gives you magic resistance. clothing armor does tend to have better magic def stats. and if you got one of the academy robe, use that as their stat against magic is pretty good. there's also a talisman that helps minimize magic damage tho i forget where to get them from.

also, this is spoiler a bit but there's a cave north east of liurnia where theres a reddish mark on the map near the edge of the swamp which is basically a mine. if you defeat the boss, you get a bell that allows you to buy the first and second smithing stone in the twin husk at the round table. that way you can lvl up your gear even easier.
This guy makes a good point. Wearing any armor with weight is kind of pointless for her fight because it's almost all magic damage. Put on some robes and that'll rule out any weight issues you're having(It'll also make you take less dmg). Also make sure you're wearing the magic dmg reduction talisman.

correct me if i am wrong, but Ive noticed most things that have high magic defense require intelligence? Ive got 9....i started this character as a Str/Faith Paladin...i havent put a single point into Int.

Sounds like you're immediately popping your summon or otherwise animation locking yourself as your first action, which all but eliminates most of the time you have to get sprinting at a 90 degree angle to the beam. She's stationary while casting it, so 45 degree angle to her ... lol, no. Amplify the angle and keep sprint up, once the beam fires without hitting you, then pop your summon. You might eat a missile or two for the animation lock, but it should cost you less than that beam is costing you now.

No. im waiting for the beam to either miss me, or to roll out of it half dead before I summon. I never even made the mistake of trying to summon right away on her phase 2 because I knew the beam was coming.

In the second phase think Four Kings from DS1 and how you had to kind of "strafe sprint" in order to close the distance with them while avoiding their ranged attacks.

First Souls game...and honestly...i wont buy another one. only reason im still playing this is because i want my monies worth. wont be doing NG+, and I probably wont start a new character either.

Has a few things i genuinely like...but the rest is just...it just makes me feel like not playing video games.
Well, honestly if you're having trouble with this boss in particular then I can see why you might not be having a good time. If it happens to click for you you'll probably enjoy it though.

Are there stat reqs on any clothing? If so I haven't noticed. Typically there are only requirements on weapons.
I don't understand how much trouble this boss could give you if you've beaten Margit and Godrick. Run sideways while she is casting her magic attacks, and jump in to attack her during any opportunities to do so. When she summons, run off until the summon disappears. It's a bad fight and depending on RNG it can be really REALLY annoying, but I don't think she's difficult overall.

If all else fails then explore and level up more. Levelling up vigor is a very good idea.

no. it might not seems much but even the low tier clothing armor you get from low level mob in limgrave does have decent magic def compared to the heavier early game armor. and the talisman can be used without requirement.

Renalla weakness is melee. you lock her in melee, you can easily defeat her. when you roll or dodge, always do that towards her and try to lock her in melee asap as she will be casting spells after spells. only real thing you have to look out for is when she cast this blue ball thing that will explode after a while and deal massive damage close range.
Considering the others already advised on dodging/i-framing her beam with rolls

I'd just like to add that despite being overlevelled for this. 22 vigor feels a bit on the low end if you're having trouble dodging attacks. I did this close to lvl 50 and my Vigor was already at 30 since I know I cant dodge very well.. having a lot more hp tend to help a lot than doing more damage as it allows for more mistakes and more time for you to learn the boss

Oh and the wolves do indeed rekt her quite fast. especially since her summpns rarely last long so whenever she gets targeted she's just staggered over and over by them

Also the troll smash summon. That'll one-shot you.

I was more speaking of shields. Like I have the Carian Knight's Shield, but I cant use it....thought, to the point...my Brass Shield actually has 3 more magic defense than Carian.

Did I mention I gave up on trying to fight the Misbegotten Lion and Crucible Knight to try and fight Rennala? Yeah....

Cause I totally thought it would be easier for me...

and its not.
Rennala is easier then godrick and if you are struggling with her. Radahn is going to roll you up and snort your ashes.

The shield could very well be your problem if you're using it. Most shields that you will have are going to have less than 60% magic block. I haven't actually seen one myself yet with more than 70%. Using a shield with such a low magic % means she's going to wreck you. Her magic damage is quite high and blocking it is not going to end well. Put the shield away, wear some robes, and dodge.

no, you dont need shield. and you certainly dont want to tank her spells with one. the point of me suggesting cloth armor is just to give you extra wiggle room in case you make a mistake or two.

also, dont bother with trying to break her poise. honestly, this is prob one of the few bosses where id suggest to just spam light attack. you prob would deal more damage quickly while also able to react and not stuck in animations.

Gosh no u aren’t underlevelled u are over. To dodge her beam at start of phase 2 just sprint either to the left or right like how you avoid a dragon’s fire attack. Then get in close and chop her. When she summons stuff just run around, wait for the summon to disappear and go on in and hack her. I use a hybrid int dex mage built so I took a while to kill her but wolves ain’t that great against her. I used olag knight instead, but any tanky summon should do the trick to get her aggro and you can go behind her to either chop her or get those spells in. I took her when I was just 55!

I have tried targeting her and just running to one side...but I always get hit...Do you need to have light gear load to be able to run from it? Im medium right now.

As for running from her summons...this doesnt work for me to despawn them. Matter of fact, one of my attempts had her have all three summons up at once because all I did was run from them...

The wiki says they disappear after a few attacks...but the only time I have seen them do this is if they either hit me with said attack, or I block it. Then and only then do I ever see them go poof.

Hence why I am so frustrated. Like everything the wiki says is not working for me...

You don’t need to lock on to her. In fact it’s counterintuitive to do so since you are limiting your movement. You run sideways (sprint). Like I said use a tanky summon to draw her aggro. On my 2nd and 3rd tries I actually took her down with spells easily even before she could get any summons in since my summon was in front of her face like where it should be. Use a summon like Banished Knight Oleg or Headless Lunatiel would do wonders here! Also her spells are quite easy to dodge. You just need to be careful with the full moon and don’t get greedy only do stabs behind her and never try sidestepping that spell!

If she does get some summons in, just run around in circles again. It disappears after about 3-5 attack cycles. Then go on in and do your mumbo jumbo. Again I reiterate a tanky summon will do wonders here! Good luck!

And yeah whilst a lot of people here I suggest using cloth armour also is because if you realise she only damages you primarily with spells and most cloth or mage armour actually gives you more protection from magic than actual armour. The only things u gotta be careful is her summons which are easily countered just by spamming sprint.

Like....I dont know who's post to mark as the answer here...but I beat her lol....like just barely...

She had her wolf, dragon, and giant summons up...and had just flown backwards after dropping that orb on me...my wolves died...she had like 10% hp left...was about to beam me, and I managed to kill her just as the dragon (who was literally right behind her) breathed fire on me...

But seriously....F this game...now I have to go fight the Lion and Crucible Knight....

Think ill mindlessly farm some Indiana Jones balls and get stoned until my Vigor is 40+.....
