I have constant connection issues anytime I do coop or invasions, and while I am not crashing out of the game its damn near impossible to stay in coop or invasion longer than a minute before being kicked out from a connection issue.
The issue is that it appearently counts disconnects during any coop sessions, because it didn't happen to me that often during an active invasion and most of the time I wasn't even the host.
fromsoft banning players for disconnecting is a VERY GOOD thing that has been sorely needed for many years. the problem isnt that they are banning people for breaking the games rules and negatively impacting the gameplay of other players who are playing within the rules, the problem is that their own servers are kicking people out so often that some people are getting softbans for it. i know regular pvp'ers who are obviously not alt f4ing that have gotten these softbans, its not just whiny players looking to escape invasions that are getting these bans.
in dark souls 3, unintentional disconnects were very rare if you had a decent connection. if your net is so garbage that you cant play online without constantly disconnecting, then you shouldnt be playing online, so getting banned for unintentional disconnects due to your own poor connection is also a very positive thing for the game. most players also will not run into actual cheaters nearly often enough for disconnecting on cheaters to incur a ban. if you think someone will actually ♥♥♥♥ with your save file or something, a single disconnect is not going to ban and it is highly, highly unlikely you will run into another malicious cheater in a short enough period of time to incur a ban.
server performance needs to be improved so players stop getting kicked out of multiplayer sessions, but actually handing out softbans for people who disconnect? that is a hugely positive step in the right direction by fromsoftware and 100% should stay.
Yup. I've never been banned in any souls game before, despite always participating in a ton of multiplayer, both coop and pvp. It's just Elden Ring has so many issues with random crashes and connectivity, that it almost impossible to avoid for me. The most frustrating part isn't even that I have to wait for 10 hours now, but that I know that it will happen again and there's nothing I can do about it. I will just be locked out of playing with my friends over and over again.
Just because this system has always been this way doesn't mean that there's no reason to improve on it. Again: The very least they could do would be to still allow coop via private password.
