How do I actually get to fight Starscourage Redahn?

I've cleared pretty much all of Caelid and Redmane castle, but when I speak to the old dude sitting in the chair there he just says that there's nothing for me to do right now OR wait till the stars align or something

So I moved on, I went to Altus Plateu until I figured something but I still have no idea whether I'm meant to be there or not

I've looked through the wiki but I can't really find a concrete source to tell me how to unlock the fight with Starscourge. Do I need to start a particular questline or something?


Edit: I beat Radahn on first try surprisingly. Came really close to death just trying to approach him. Once in swinging range, he dead.
Btw major tip, rotten breath OBLITERATES his health like its nobody's business - its disgusting how much health he loses; practically dead before you even know what happens
Can't tell whether he's hard as people made him out to be since I kinda prepared too much to face him

I think those are the only side quests I did before I did Redahn

You should be able to go down the Elevator in the church. If you can't, find Alexander and he'll talk about a festival. If you're doing Ranni's quest, Blaidd will be there too if you have progressed far enough into it.

Tips for the fight, go in no other players. Get on horse immediately. Summon the NPCs (they can be summoned again if they die) but Patches will leave you instantly so don't bother with him.

The only requirment to start the red festival is that you have to activate the great lift of dectus AFAIK

Oh I've unlocked the great lift of dectus...but I haven't went back to redmane since...

I feel really dumb now. Gotta head back I guess

I did wait till night initially cuz the clue seemed kinda blatant, but that didn't get me anywhere

Killed Patches when he surrendered, wasn't sure if he was gonna pull a sneaky last minute stab-me-in-the-back at the last second.
Haven't met Alexander

Because I've purposely put a few points into arcane and faith for rotten breath because I heard rumors that he's extremely weak to scarlet rot

Well i havent even found Patches so far and killed Radahn yesterday.
But i did find and help Alexander

but i dont think either of that is needed

i must have done that somehow without realizing
