NPC quests are too cryptic
Some of them say "bring me item X" or "bring this item X to location Y" and that's OK. But then they go away to God knows where for no reason. Why can't they stay on a single location? I'm on endgame right now with probably 90% of the bonfires unlocked and half of the NPCs I met disappeared mid quest

lol I don't want handholding, just a journal to keep record of dialogue so that I don't have to manually do it. If you could ask to replay diologue from an NPC that'd be one thing, but you're just being an unbridled asshat if you think most people will easily remember cryptic dialogue 50+ hours after the fact without a wiki.

You don't get it. No journal would help if NPCs vanish without leaving any clue about where they might have gone

I don't really care about that as much as just keeping record of hints NPCs give you. NPCs have always left in souls games ever since DS1 only to be found in a further area. Except it's not random. NPCs always progress with you and you'll never find one in a previous area from where you spoke to them last for the most part. Sure, you need to explore the area a bit to find them, but it's not like they are hiding behind illusion walls or anything. Seems like YOU don't get it apparently.

What's really funny is OP's been whining about people wanting a very real design oversight to have an "off" setting (auto-centering camera), something that will never affect him in any way.

And he's here complaining about something that is anything but an oversight, something that would make the game not only more hand holdy, but less replayable.

Maybe if you paid attention and explored you wouldnt have trouble.

It really is awful design for NPCs to move to random locations where you might never find them again. If they would at least say where they were going or left a mark on your map (which does happen for a few random points so we know it could have been done more often) it would make sense. Everyone has to use the wiki to figure out where in the massive world they teleported to next.

What amount of "paying attention" tells me where Hyetta moves to?
I'll wait.

yeah u explored a bit too far then ur quest got ♥♥♥♥♥♥, every time I went to a new area I had to pull up the wiki to see if i will mess up any side quests. nice game design. previous games are way smaller so at least they r manageable

Honestly it's bizarre people protect this and at this point I have to give props to FromSoftware for conditioning their fan base to just willingly take it from behind. Their quest design even had problems in the previous linear based games. Where you could easily miss a step and those games aren't open world lol. It's cool that Alexander basically tells you where to find him next but I can't say the same for the rest. They could be in Shreks arse in the giant ass map.

The problem introduced by elden ring is the scale of the game. You're only going to find Lanya by random chance. And where did Nepheli go? Well if you already visited the bonfire she goes to before she goes to it, you'll probably never know.
first playthrough or two are going to be a matter of scrounging and pure exploration. But then people will learn to use the fextralife interactive guide to go exactly where they want for specific builds

Cherish these moments because after you learn the whole map, you wont have the same level of wonder for how unknowingly big this game is. And big it is

6 ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ endings im told

Just because it’s not for you doesn’t mean it’s a problem

Keep in mind these are side quests. Most of which don’t affect specific endings. It’s not a big deal if you miss them. It’s rewarding if you complete them. And fans of FromSoft games typically do multiple playthroughs

There are impossible to figure out quests like ranni and millicent and there are easy quests with a good narrative like volcano manor stuff, I loved the assassinate quests.

For the endings however.. you mostly need to do such ridiculous stuff .. I keep wondering how the ♥♥♥♥ some people figured it out without fextralife.

I kinda like and hate it at the same time. I like that they dont use generic western quest design like every other game dev out there does. But I hate how you have to either waste a lot .. a freaking lot of time searching for stuff you dont know where to start at all.. resulting in just searching the whole world.

Nobody can tell me that they found the waygate to the ansel river main after getting the dagger without a guide or luck.

You saying that doesn’t make it true. I could say that about anyone who disagrees with me, that it’s just that they’ve been brainwashed, but I’d sound pretty frickin arrogant. Right?
