Totally awful design. It's gotta be an oversight.
Used to be, you step on a hot rock for a second, you die in two unless you keep chugging and/or apply an anti-fire buff.
Now, you can just waltz over actual magma and suffer a lil tick of damage as you do so.
Hilariously, the blood rot status or whatever it's called causes more rapid DoT than the magma.
Which canonically makes some sense, it's a curse/disease which was so potent it could cripple gods and outright kill demi-gods.
By comparison, magma is just some slightly hot liquid rock-stuff. Nothing a bit of divinity, magic and runes can't reduce to a slight simmering sensation on the skin. kek
It is trying to do similar to a plataform game but without the flow and full expressive mechanics in jumps.
It is a little easier with light load equipment. Heavy almost impossible, you have to do frame perfect.
