you can use ashes of war later to change the scaling even more into strength
I highly recommend it.
I lost to godrick ~70times.. never beaten so i dont want to repeat exact same build. :D im hoping for some other weapon type.
you can also play melee + spellcaster hybrid, there are a lot of melee weapons that scale with INT or FTH
early game melee + shield, later OP spells to nuke bosses
no its a passive weapon upgrade, you weapon will then always do normal damage + fire damage
I like spear move set and its solid reach. It is not the best weapon for clearing packs of enemies but it is very solid 1-2-1 weapon. Its charge attack is very potent and jump heavy attack has very high poise damage and will stagger a lot of enemies.
When you can choose when you deal damage conveniently, you'll discover you're dealing more over time than you might with another weapon class that can't use range and speed as well.
I do use a crossbow offhand in pvp just to punish people for standing around thrusting their hips at me, the lowly invader.
Thanks for detailed explanation. I too dont care much about damage its about speed and reach i suppose. Well if i get into fight with 5 mobs i just run away until i can take them one by one so damage for me isnt much. Sadly im still considering wealding shield in both hands but im hoping i can find a weapon. I will mark the thread closed as solved and will ponder on this until i get better at game.
The answer above seems to be pretty accurate. The one thing I´ve learned that fits pretty much all these games is, that you don´t need to roll, block or parry. Spacing and positioning is key. Be in the right spot at the right time and you wont get hit and even better, you can actually hit the enemy. I did this a lot in Nioh 2 when I play heavy weapons like an axe. In ER this seems to be possible as well. I didn´t try with halberd yet but Katana and Zweihander work so I don´t see why other weapons shouldn´t work. Halberd seems to be the weapon of choice for that, as the "choosen answer" explains. Long reach plus good damage is perfect for playing the "positioning game".
Last but not least, when you simply "move" in ER the boss attacks wont track you. When you roll and roll too early they will hit you plus you have the "recovery time" from the roll where you are vulnerable to follow up attacks. Personal experience, that I can´t proof yet. When you simply "step aside" enemies tend to stop their attack chain and "reset". If you roll they go with a 3hit combo for example. If I simply step aside and hit them, they will stop their "combo" and try again.
