if i put an ash of war on something do i get the old one back?

i want to change my weapon's modifiers and i don't see any way to do it without changing the ash of war

You never lose your ashes of war. If you want the default ability back. Then put the ash on something else, or go and buy the "No ash" skill from the warmaster's shack in stormhill.

You can unequip the Ashes to get the original weapon skill back.

In at least one case, you can extract ashes of war from an item you found and put it on something else (Rogier's Rapier, don't sleep on it, one of the best support ashes for melee fighting).

ok i see videos of some people having an ash of war option on the grace menu, why don't i have that

Select the same one again and choose to undo.
