Can you get banned for making a copy of your save file to make new PvP builds?
This might be a stupid question but I'm newish to pc gaming and I don't really know if this is allowed. As you all know it can take up to 70+ hours to go through the game (of course it won't take nearly that long on repeat playthroughs) and I acquired all sorts of different weapons , ashes, and spells. Are we allowed to make a copy of our save data and then replace it when we want to make/try out a new build. I saw someone say that we shouldn't because the game checks for basic info or something and if we mess with something, we could get banned. I'd just like to avoid putting in another 30-40 hours everytime just to make a new PvP build.

I've done it once so far this playthrough fearing hitting points of no return, was still able to invade people after that.

It most likely wouldn't get you banned. but I can't be 100% sure on that. I did it all the time in DS3 and was never banned.

I heard that DS3's server keeps track of your current level and bans you if it detects a lower level

That is wrong. Not sure where you heard it but I will safely confirm for you, unless they changed it in recent years, that from release up until I stopped playing DS3 a few years ago on PC it did not.

Backing up a save was the most commonly recognized way to counter ban risks.

Further, I did precisely this for fun with regards to level. I had a SL26 with +2 weapons that was in NG+6 I could use to troll invaders (and allies, sorry guys) against normally EZ bosses like Vordt/Tree, or Mad Spirit Hodrick phantom in swamps (notorious for his already insane stats in NG+, but mine was NG+6 vs NG low level players trololol), or random aggro anyone crabs/rapport mobs. Great stuff. I even could level up with my millions of souls on hand to any level with any equipment to mold a character to play whatever build I wanted since I had max of nearly everything in the game in terms of upgrade materials/shop items/all equipment/all spells/etc. legitimately farmed and millions of souls saved. Never got banned. I really doubt it will be an issue here since it seems to basically be a modified version of the exact same engine.

There is no need for this as you can easily farm runes and respec to whatever you like (when you're far enough in the game)

From how DS3 worked and how useless EAC is, it will probably be fine.

Until the first banwave happens. We'll know if there's a sudden uptick of people complaining about bans...

im curious too about this actually but i need 100% confirmation to know if its banable or not i really dont wanna make another character from scratch and get all the golden seeds again and other stuff i could just copy my 120 lvl build and use different items but is it bannable? need legit source on that

It's more than just about respecing my stats. It's also about weapon upgrade materials. Once you use up the limited quantity of the regular and somber ancient dragon smithing stones, you'll have to go through ng+ to get more. It'd be a lot faster just to replace the save file.

Yes I had that luckily I read it so didn't lose any progress. Now I've switched off cloud and make a manual back up just as I did in DS3 for years
