Margitgud is legit gatekeeper
Honestly didn't expect the first boss to be this hard. I am a moderate Souls veteran (beaten DS2 and DS3) and Margit was hard as hell even with the summons. Yes leveling in the open world and fighting other smaller bosses beforehand helps a lot, but it doesn't change that Margit has an extremely tough moveset for an early game boss. That delay at the apex of his windups is impossible lol.

It's also a stark contrast from previous early game bosses. When you compare Margit to Asylum Demon which has like 3 attacks and can be slapped to death at SL 0, Iudex Gundyr which again has 3 attacks with heavy tells that can easily be dodged. And here we have this beast lol. Total scrub gatekeeping here.

If I see anyone unironically say "casul, git gud, etc.", I know that person is trash with no achievements in life except for gaming.

Margit is legit a hard boss, and if you think he was easy, you were either overleveled or used cheese strats (magic, spirits, etc.). Also I completely agree, that Margit would be the first boss for many players who just want to play the story, instead of randomly exploring stuff.

Tree Sentinel is easy to skip, because there's no boss fog. Margit is directly on the path the game tells you to take, so obviously, a required fight (even though you can skip him, but none of the new players would know that).

I beat Margit at level 1, and with no upgrades, and it was a ♥♥♥♥♥ of a fight that took me 10 minutes, mostly due to his second phase. All his attacks have constant timings, but some of them are very hard to dodge anyway. Punishing him in second phase is very hard, I could only get 1-2 hits in.

He's very easy once you start using charged attacks to stagger him.
Which is why alot of new players won't be able to beat him alone since they just mash buttons.

Margitgud lmao ! that's awsome. I'm gonna use that one going forward, thanks for the laugh.

Oddly enough, the one time I decided to use the shackles after an hour of close attempts, I downed him with flask charges to spare.

I eventually cheesed him with DoT wolf summon, but for the love of me I just couldn't get him otherwise

He isn't even hard. Has massive wind-ups and generous punishment windows. If any boss is a "gatekeeper" it's probably Godrick, but even he isn't prohibitively difficult.

If you have trouble with margit, go anywhere else to get stronger. You have access to like 90% of the game without doing him.

Generous? That tosser does a 360 out of nowhere, waits for you to try to dodge before attacking, changes attack sequence depending on your reaction, etc etc. Is anything but generous but I guess he was clearly designed to force you to explore the game quite a bit beforehand. Perfectly prepares you for what's about to come.

His attack wind-ups are preset, not adaptive. I could literally get a hit in, dodge, then hit him again in his punishment window.

And oh no, his combos change sometimes and aren't some completely predetermined thing so you can just beat him like you're following a set of instructions. Git gud lol.

Lol, I'm convinced Margit is reading inputs. He just so happens to throw daggers all too often exactly when you start drinking x)

Yeah, if sees you chugging or doing anything while you're out of range he's going to use a ranged attack on you, like any intelligent being would.

Yes but even if you wait for them to attack to dodge that and heal, they usually don’t. They wait for YOU to attack or heal this time. And once you start chugging, it’s just chance if they hit you or not. In previous souls games, you could run away and then heal most of the time. In ER, you can’t do that or they’ll get you. There’s a very small window to actually chug and not get hit but it feels like rng tbh. Sometimes it felt like he was just reading my inputs because he would always throw in a delayed attack or change up the combo perfectly to hit me.

Chugging isn't free. If you want to chug you have to sacrifice a punishment window to be absolutely safe. Healing up damage for a past mistake shouldn't be free.

The boss isn't even that hard, so you shouldn't need to be chugging that much anyway. In the end it all boils down to skill. Otherwise people wouldn't be able to do no damage runs of this game and the Souls games.

Yeah, gitgud is always an ultimate solution lol

How is Margit the first boss? I fought him properly during network testing, but this time around I was like level 50 when I got there. At that point he is just a minor inconvenience.
