Have you ever played a Souls game?
Mind you, ER also has actual hyper armor it seems, I've been playing naked with 3 poise for the entirety of my 80 hours and I often trade blows with enemies who have huge weapons. Beyond a certain point, with bigger weapons, you seem to get actual old hyper armor back, without the need for "poise". I doubt I could ever trade blows if I were to play with a dagger and 3 poise.
i died to the skull storm first time and then killed him second try. the fight really boils down to if you have enough stats to easily stagger him with the spear.
thats it.
Fun fact: Stats don't affect staggers.
You can easily test this yourself.
First round becomes relatively easy then - just having to dodge the one-hit killshots, and guard the unavoidable ground break (a bad game design decision) - but eventually the snake gets stunlocked and you can whomp him some more until dead
The second is still painful.
Did they really see the need to implement those flaming skull spam? I question Miyazaki's judgement on that one - it made the fight unneccessarily NOT fun.
I only managed to win by pure luck - or maybe because I kept whomping with the same jumping attack after Rykard got distracted enough with my summonned ashes. The skull spam was about to start but he got stunlocked and I finished him off. I just can't survive the skull spam - absolutely ridiculous.
