by "Lord" i mean to compare it to the big 4 Lords in dark souls so try to think about how long it took to kill the first one, it really does pay off to wander around in elden ring (its how you find all the best stuff honestly)
really take your time on the first area then, it will help alot, and if you need the map uncovered you can actually see where the maps are to reveal them on the map screen in the unrevealed areas, just look closely, having a map that isn't just brown backround can help alot with exploring as theres alot of clues drawn onto the map
It's not even like this in the souls series, this is the first time that they do it in this way breaking their traditional kind of castlevania progression.
The rule of thumb that i'm following, at the very least, explore, loot and fight everything that is in one area before going to its castle.
You can see the areas more or less easily differentiated by the general color it has on the map.
Your first stop, everything that is green from the cave you came up from the tutorial, everything in there is gonna be easier than Margit.
defeating margit early has only 1 advantage : you get the extra talisman slot sooner. thats about it. go and explore instead of following the grace mindlessly. if you do that youll run into massive roadblocks when totally undergeared and underleveled.
you can also gain more healing flasks and better heals from them aswell by exploreing. 14 flasks at +12 healing is the maximum. the starting gift golden seed is useless btw. you can max out without it. dont choose it. not sure on the key yet as i didnt ever run out of these during my current run. and i still have 15 left currently. you always find more.
plus if you get the key at start you can try to defeat the endgame seed boss at the starting dungeon and get another golden seed and one of the most summons in the game. these stormknights but with dual greatswords. given how annoying they are to fight i guess that summon would kick serious ass. i dont use summons so i cannot judge it. will reserve easymode summong for future playtroughs after the first batch of nerfs has arrived.
Once you got horse, do explore and grind as you wander around. When you feel you are sufficiently levelled up and confident enough to beat that jerk.. then go to castle.
Oh and.. you can bypass castle and get to lake via eastern side of castle. Just look around.
I thought i could trust the way the little golden light would show me...
Special thanks to my maiden, after at least 20 death against that boss, who showed me the golden counseil table (or whatever this is) and its devil-powered hostile NPC that can one shot me...
Huh.
The only thing i could blame the game is : if you never played a game of the genre, you can't know if you're supposed to be here, or not.
i skiped stormwind castle for hours n hours.
went to the island in the south, was in the bloody marches to the east, was in that huge lake to the north,... killed dont know 20-30 bosses befor even thinkin bout stormwind castle xD
bout margit.
get yourself at least 6 flasks +2 ( even 8 +5 is quite easy without ever going north )
find a weapon you like and if possible hit +4 with it.
challange any dungeon and any over world boss you can find. those are easier.
use torrent as often as possible. there is lots of stuff just waiting for you.
the 8 +5 flasks? you can reach taht without picking a single fight.
for anyone new i recommand getting a shield with 100% physical, and there are many.
the brass shield for example all base knights wear it.
if you explore the south there is a turtle shell shield for free, 100% phys too.
( muten roshi cosplay any one? )
