ELDEN RING

Its asking me to use cloud or local
I have a character with 50 hours on them. It's asking me to use cloud or local. People are saying using local will instantly delete your character, but for some reason the cloud save is a way newer file. I'm too scared to launch the game.

Just make a back up of your save first
I just go with whatever date is newer so far. Haven't had an issue yet.
The most recent one
I picked cloud and it deleted 9 hours of progression....
1) Backup your save
users/your username/appdata/roaming/eldenring

2) Choose whatever the newest save file is
where is the save file?
Make a backup of your local file (located at: "user/appdata/roaming/eldenring") and try the most recent after that.

this
If you need to backup your cloud:
https://store.steampowered.com/account/remotestorageapp/?appid=1245620

And then for local, it should be:
Start Menu, then type in
%appdata%
Press Enter.
Look for Elden Ring, your Steam ID, and the el000 something files in there.
It would be nice if this game saved on multiple slots. Having one single character slot that is constantly overridden is just asking for something to go wrong. Never liked that design in From games. You basically have to keep a backup.

Same thing just happened to me. Thought I was fine. Only lost 2 and half hours, but that is very damn frustrating to lose almost a nights worth of exploration.

I've had that same experience myself... I felt the same way about it...
I've also had this idea where you need to Install an Update to a Game,
in order to keep playing, but if you Update, your Save can't be used anymore
on the Game... I can resolve this by continuing to play Offline, but because
I already hooked to the Internet, the Game still thinks an Update exists, &
that I need to Update, even when i'm Offline...

-------------------------------------------------

I would do this as well? Save a backup copy of the Local & Cloud from
your User Folder on your Game, but also save a copy of the Local / Roaming
Folders from your Computer's User Account on top of that...

Hopefully? Now, no matter what you do, your Save is safe...

Problem here is? If you choose the Cloud, you may have a New problem presented here...

The Game now thinks it needs to load from the Cloud, which makes it difficult
to run your old Game Save... Because it no longer looks for a Local Save, it now
looks for a Cloud Save...

I never got mine resolved, but from my understanding? I am trying to figure out
how my Game is trying to search for my Saves, so I can re-route it to my Saves...
Until I figure that out? I'm not exactly sure what to do here...
