how to use pouch, ashes?

go my first knight, its equipped in pouch for quick cast, but after holding E to open the menu in game, nothing happens, i just scratch my butt and thats it ..
what do i miss?

I play with a controller but it should translate to whatever keys you use: While holding E press whatever key you have set to change your right hand, left hand, item or spell (depending on the position of the item in your pouch)


If you're scratching your head and the player doesn't know what to do with the item, that probably means you're missing the bell needed to use spirits. Or you are not in an area where they can be used. You have to see a stoneplate looking symbol on the left side of your screen to use them.

You can only use ashes/spirits in certain areas and against bosses. An icon will appear on the left of the screen indicating it.

you have to have the spirit summoning bell and you also need to be in specific zones, indicated by a white faded door icon on the left side of your screen
