Why we still using peer 2 peer for online ffs
As title says.
Why are we still using peer 2 peer in Elden Ring?
After all the lag issues with the peer 2 peer hosting in past souls games had. With 30ft long swords and what not.
Even setting Cross region match making to off does ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ XD

Just why Fromsoft :(

Because a) it's super expensive to send all that data through their servers, and b) assuming people can actually manage their NAT correctly, you get lower total latency on P2P.

It would be worse on their servers they can't program this stuff effectively

It's free.

Big words for someone who doesn't know what "effectively" means
You're looking for the word "efficiently"

Why does no one understand how P2P works? In multiplayer games with small player caps, P2P is almost always better.

Wait you think cheating is possible because of it being peer to peer? That's not how that works.. Many games use peer to peer and you likely don't even know it. Considering at any given point there are only 3 people total in a particular game, why would they use a server? This isn't an MMO or anything. Each person's world, while online, would need a server.. that's hundreds of thousands of worlds. Even with it being this way cheating would still be possible. It's up to the anti-cheat they use to stop that as well as constant moderation.

What I find funny is that there are people that think the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ anti-cheat system they chose will actually do anything to stop cheaters lmao
You can already disable it with a single dll file. Whether or not that lets people do things like fly around and casting lightning on everyone like theyre Thor, who knows. But itll definitely let people use cheat engine to spawn in every item for themselves. Which frankly im okay with because after hundreds of hours crafting new builds, it gets tiring as ♥♥♥♥ to play through the game every time.

If you disable it you can't connect to the matchmaking servers, though

I wouldnt be at all suprised to see workarounds, itll just be less accessible, which should be enough to stop most flagrant cheating.

As was said, when you disable the anti-cheat you can't connect to others. There's always going to be ways around anti-cheat no matter what kind they use. It's just like how there's no point using DRM really because pirates will always find a way. All you can really do is deter or slow the progress.

Makes sense on the first few releases but come on.
Fromsoft is worth over $54.2 million atm
Could have done a better job with the matchmaking at least. See no difference at all from Ds1 og release, when it comes to coop/pvp latency.
Considering the Cost to run a server for this type of game is a Waste of $$$ not to mention how Servers are now getting even more Low Supply High Demand from every Major Company especially MMO ones.

Ah.. you're one of those.. The "this company has X money! They can do anything!" mentality is just so stupid.. You understand absolutely nothing about development, server costs, and apparently business, but you seem to think you have the intelligence to tell them how they should do things..

As for co-op/pvp latency.. what latency? I haven't seen any issues. You seem to be literally the only person I've seen having issues with latency. There have been connection issues, but that's entirely different and to be expected on new release. You sure the latency isn't a local issue? Then again, given your previous mentality, I assume you think nothing is ever your fault it's always someone else's.

Oh no, peer to peer connections, that thing that every other Souls game and a ton of others use. People somehow survived it then, I think you'll manage.
