how to equip arrow?

I have a bow, but I don't know how to equip the arrow in the small slot, what is the keyboard button to assign an arrow to that slot? also, my big upper slot is empty, I can't equip anything there..

The slots marked with the blue squiggle are your arrows and great arrows. The left is your primary arrows, right is your secondary arrows. When your bow is ready, hold shift to fire your secondary arrows.

The slots with the red squiggle are for crossbow bolts, with the same controls as the arrows. Do note, you cannot fire crossbow bolts from bows, or arrows from crossbows.
You also cannot fire great arrows from regular bows, or regular arrows from greatbows.

Can you put it in layman's terms? It's a bit too complex for me to understand.

the upper slot is for spells. when you get one spell, go to any site of grace to equip it.

and, to use arrows, you must go to the equipment menu, in the up right corner. the first two slots are for bow arrows, and the following ones are for crossbows

thank you so much, one more Q: how do I equip the spell? I just stand near site of grace and press ESC and equip from there? because there's no equip option when you press rest at site grace.
