fast travel is a tad OP
in the middle of a dangerous dungeon with like 25,000 runes can die at any second but I can fast travel out of there to safety

that's pretty OP

you'd think fast travel can only be possible if you're sitting at a bonfire instead but no you can do it wherever eliminating any risk.

You can't fast travel if you are inside dungeon you haven't completed, or if you are inside combat. On the open world it doesn't really matter as you can avoid any enemy easily anyways.

Ironically enough you can't do this. You cannot fast travel while inside a cave system. That is why they have ports to take you back to the beginning, so you dont have to run the whole way. You also cant fast travel while aggroed to mobs or sometimes having mobs around.

That's always been a thing, all they have done is removed the item requirement.
And its also not always the case in this game. You can find yourself trapped and have to navigate a terrifying area without a grace to warp to, loaded with runes.

Its about risk vs reward. At some point, your just losing out on progress for fear of loss so even though at any point you can return, at some point 80k runes isnt going to cover a single level up and you really, really need that last 18000 runes so you can finally equip that weapon upgrade you stumbled upon.

Its not op, its tactically available just in case and it doesn't actually stop you from losing runes either way because you cant warp while in combat.

usually you can't fast travel out of dungeons. maybe you where in one of the huge underground sections, those aren't considered dungeons.

also alot of caves actually trap you in the boss room with a ledge so you can hop out even if you wanted to.

If this was any other Souls game I'd agree but when a single dungeon tucked away in a cave somewhere is as big as an entire area from a previous game, and the open world itself is easily bigger than previous games combined just in terms of sheer volume of traversable land space in the overworld, a fast travel system is necessary.

People need to learn that "hardcore" =/= being ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ exhausting and tedious for no justifiable reason.

Also, you can simply choose to not use fast travel except at bonfires. Nothing is forcing you to use that mechanic.

Pretty sure EVERY fromsoft soulslike has a fast travel item that ignores the bonfire analog.

you used to be able to fast travel while actually in combat in the older games. I always started DS1 by running down to new londo ruins for the fire keeper soul straight away, then boning out as the ghosts are trying to attack me.
