Why is this game so popular?
Could someone explain to me why this game is praised so much? I've read some reviews, I've watched some gameplay and everyone is super hyped about it. But to me it seems boring, I get a walking simulator vibe. Ride on horse and kill EVERYTHING using the roll around tactics or kiting... I admit I don't know anything about the story, is it that captivating that you can't stop playing and keep pushing for the plot? What makes thsi game fun? Or is this one of those games that is not fun at all like Street Fighter 5 and you can't stop playing out of pure hate? :)

Because Dark Souls is one of the best games in 20+ years. We were told that no new DS game would happen. Now years later we get this. A massive, beautiful world, with art in the same Gothic style of Dark Souls, seeming very much as if it's all part of the same world.

You have three people here.

Fans like me that just wanted more Dark Souls content
Fans hyped about the hype
Fans Excited about a real AAA title vs the rush 10% complete trash that became a standard over the last 10-years.

Too many people think DarkSouls is the best gaming series ever. Only reason why the hype is so big on this.

it's the 6th installment in a longrunning popular franchise about being a cool badass buff dude in magic land, where they don't spoonfeed you anything, and you're expected to actually engage with the community to learn and grow together.
Without being a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ MMO where you click the man until he fall over :cuphead:

There's like a million "video essays" on Youtube about why people love Souls games. Go watch one.

I do not think you know what a walking simulator is. This is basically Dark Souls with open world and horses.

Dear Esther is a walking simulator.

Best game I've ever played and I'm not even 30% in I think, best exploration and atmosphere I've ever witnessed, even better than Breath of the Wild.

its one of the only games that is truly all about skill. there are no real sponge enemies or things of that nature. with skill alone you can beat the entire game without even being hit (granted there are very very few people who can do this)

the gameplay. the graphics. the environment. the desolation. the atmosphere... its basically perfect. the game is the LEAST walking simulator game ever made. play it before assuming things like that.

Its one of the few games out there that give you a serious sense of accomplishment + Open World. Think BOTW but if it was not designed for 8 year olds, and has a decent difficulty curve

Because people like different things and sometimes a lot of people like a thing that you don't like.

That's the beginning and end of it.

objectively speaking (ratings and sales) , this studio has been hammering non stop great gsmes (8,9,10/10's) for 6 games in a row. maybe this isn't your type of game.

It's a good gaming series. Every entry has been at least decent, at best amazing, so far.
Dark Souls 1 is a great game overall, good level design, one of my favorite games
Dark Souls 2 has the best and most in-depth PvP
Dark Souls 3 is more of 1 but a bit washed out in my opinion. Really polished though
Bloodborne has amazing atmosphere and setting, exploring never felt the same for me
Sekiro is a very different game but the combat is extremely challenging and fun, yet simple. Extremely polished too.
Demon's Souls still holds up, the remake shows how it's not just a prototype but just as good

All of those games have a lot of love put into them. I'm not the biggest Elden Ring fan so far but I'll wait until the performance is fixed. Bloodborne and Dark Souls 1 were one of the best single player experiences I had.

Everyone to its own. Gaming reviews on magazines take $ and are corrupted and anything they praise is pure marketing, so never listen as general rule. However if you play the game and get proficent at it you will under stand that is solid game. The game is very niche if you played DS series, Nioh series and bloodborne this will sound familiar at last to me personally as fan is in familiar territory. However if you did not it will be a a bit of challenge, in beginning seem like "boring" but once you get the whole game mechanics and become proficent than it starts developing in great game.
But like I said dont get a game just for hype or a trend, give it a try for a bit of time, also keep in mind there are people that dont like certain niches also so keep that in mind, you don't need neccesarely to agree with any game that comes out.
