Rotten Stray Ashes RNG?

How the hell does this rot debuff work? is it just RNG for when it gets applied? I've been testing and seen the dog get 15 or so hits, still no debuff, why?

because it, like all spirit summons, is trash. kill a dragon, go to the 2nd dragon church, and buy the rot breath spell.

Doesn't answer whether it's rng or not but ok.

Everry monster has resistances to certain attacks, including status effects. Some enemies are completely immune against certain effects. You gotta learn what works on which enemy, and sometimes it's enough to look at the enemy and its environment, to make an educated guess what works (the flame knights probably are well resistant to fire damage etc.)
