Do empty armor slots still incur a penalty?
Just wondering if empty armor slots still incur a penalty, thanks in advance if anyone knows.

Just watch the overall weight of your char.

For reference: In DS3 not wearing a piece of gear in every slot had a heavy penalty to damage reduction, to the point wearing no armor at all was better than partial armor.

I'm interested to know the answer to OP's question as well.

If there is a penalty I'm gonna be experiencing it for the rest of my game, I refuse to wear a helmet. spent hours making my character not look like a hideous creature for a reason

Yes, this is what I meant. Thanks for clarifying.

It honestly feels like armour matters for once. In DS3 I could run around naked and take just as much damage of enemies as I would get from full armour. In elden ring I can certainly feel the difference alot more. Even if you only have partial armour, you can feel the difference vs naked.

for once I prefer to medium roll :p

for those that don't get what op is talking about, in ds3 having an armor slot be empty instead of not gave you a MASSIVE reduction in your defence and absorption stats. Even the weakest armor filling the slot would give you a huge boost compared to it being empty. It had something to do with a weird way that the game calculated defence stats.

damn it in the time that i was typing out the ds3 armor gimmick 2 other people had already done it lmao

Yeah, in DS3 armor didn't matter. The difference between Havel armor and Painter armor sets was only 1 or 2 hits.

As you should. The easy way is the boring way. \o/

I am still doing fashion souls so my dmg reduction is something like 8% but I found a headgear that is just a halo on your head similiar to ds3 pyro crown.

Holy Friede v2 cosplay for my first playtrough with incantantions and holy scythe that lets you fly with weapon art it pure gold

Yeah, most DS3 armor guides looked like a bike commercial because of this: WEAR A HELMET.

But in ER, I don't know. If anyone has both the will and the brains to test the difference in damage between full armor and missing one piece, I'll be grateful. I miss either one or both of these qualities. :HappyOtus:
