That said, I like the Golden Halberd, I think it's basically the Uchigatana from DS3: A very good weapon you can get in the earliest game by killing a mob that is very strong at that level.
I never really came around to the Halberds in ER, but can only say good things about the Cross-Naginata if you want that 'high range-high damage-medium speed' playstyle. Try it out if you haven't already, it will surprise you.
its a good weapon for a str/faith build but if you go melee holy hell powerstanceing is insanely strong with jumping attacks.
for a faith build tough a simple lighting spear outperforms it tough. for pve only of course.
there is no BEST all around weapon in this game.
It has 3 split scaling: B str, D dex, D faith. These split significant demand your stats to be effective at all 3 rather than focusing on specific stats. If you compare to weapon with A and S scaling at max upgrade, with right stat you can easily double the weapon damage.
Meanwhile, it's very level intense for split scaling weapon like Halberd. So for the very very end game, like maybe 150+ level and right stats investment, you might be out dmg on a focused investment.
Another aspect with split dmg is.
You will see something like:
Physical: 100 + 50 = 150
Holy: 100+ 50 = 150
Total AR = 300
As for enemy resistant, it will be something like this:
Physical: 50 and 10%
Holy: 50 and 10%
So in this case, you total dmg out put will be like:
Physical: (150-50)*(1-10%) = 90
Holy: (150-50)*(1-10%) = 90
With final dmg as: 180
Now, assuming you have other physical dmg with pure physical dmg at
Physical: 300
Total AR = 300
The final dmg will be
(300-50)*(1-10%) = 225
A pure, focused dmg will likely do more dmg than split dmg weapon, assuming enemies are equally resistant to all dmg type. But then, it will be decent against enemy weak against Holy.
Golden vow is flat 15% buff to your weapon dmg.
A good weapon choice could be something you found comfortable with the moveset: Is it fast, easy to recover, flexible vs Focus, range/reach. While Golden Halberd is cool, you might be better off (in long term) with a normal halberd with golden vow ash of war attached to it and scale with your best stats.
True if you use the normal attacks it can be slow, but dual wield it and jumping L1 and it's actually fairly quick for the damage it puts out, and the poise damage it does at that.
you can dual wield these if you do ng+ and it's much stronger than radahn swords in this case. completely forgot about this thread, and have since done 2 more chars with more diverse builds.
they have their own boons, vices, and interesting weapon gimmicks, but still do not beat this MVP of a weapon
