The game is already kind to give that kind of quick-select instead of having to cycle through the list one by one, so it's been made a bit less focus-required and instead uses muscle-memory.
Clinging to playstation 1 era control tropes pointlessly shouldn't be seen as the default. It's not "kind" to give better control options, it's required to stay competitive within the industry.
I think there's a way to hold a key to access the quick-pouch slots, but I never found it.
It's usually from holding interact, but I don't think it works right on keyboard.
The controls should fit the game, not the other way around.
No need for the newest thing if an older version does it better. :P
I don't see how this older mechanic works objectively better than simply having a hotkey. It objectively is more advanced and quicker to simply press one key instead of scrolling through your quick select items and THEN press the assigned ''use item'' key.
But I respect your opinion. :)
