It's because all the different sliders effect everything else and you have to mess with the ratios too. I think start with all ratios in the middle and then if you want features to extend in the extremes either way go back to the ratios sliders and start changing them.
What might be the issue is the power of "lighting". >_>
Bad lighting can make everyone look ugly.
Good lighting can make everyone look better.
The features are exactly the same.
The issue is that in almost all creators you get perfect lighting to highlight said features nicely.
But when in the games worlds with the light coming mostly from above, you actually get to see them in a more natural lighting.
