How do you offer an item to NPCs?

I see some signs at NPCs that say like "offer this" or "try giving that" but how do I do that? I cant figure it out!

aah so than it gives you an option in the text menu. I thought I had to have it in my hand or smth, thanks!

youre welcome, youll notice a lot of items in the near future of the game like scrolls and books you can give to vendors and NPCs for new items to buy or unlock questlines or continue them

Does it say its a quest item btw? Or can I accidently sell them thinking its vendor trash?

You have to have an item for their quest line in order to offer them something, unless there's a Snuggly/Frampt equivalent that you can give things to
