classes only effect starting stats and gear

Classes are really just starting kit, yeah.
Any class can be spect to use any item, weapon, and spell.

I may be mistaken, but I think the only way in-game way to get a description on the classes is to pick at least one class, then on the character creation screen, open up the class selection to see roughly what they're about and maybe what they might be carrying / starting with.

Basically "classes" are just starting builds. They start you off with stats and gear suited for a certain playstyle, but there's no "class" system in the game, you can put points wherever you want and use whatever gear you want. Classes simply give you a bit of a boost at the start. But everything the classes start with you can find in game somewhere.

Personally I always like the "level 1, no gear" starts in these games as it leaves me with a clean slate.

The difference between the classes for a new player should simply be explained as two-fold:

- there's a different distributions of starting points, which allows for earlier wielding of desired weapons or less 'wasted' points when scaling the weapon you are using.

-the starting gear, some of which remains the best available throughout the entire game for a given role. simply put, if you want to cast spells, a caster class will have a spellcasting weapon for you and so on. REMEMBER: You can get any starting gear at a different place in the game as well, so this is only important for newer players.

After a first playthrough you can feel free to dive deeper into the finer aspects of classes and builds, but it all always basically comes down to this: Get a class that wastes as few points as possible in talent points you do not really want to wish later.

i assumed it was like that, just changing your starting attributes and loadout...

lets try this question: what do the classes focus towards?

friendo tells me astronomer or astrologer or w/e is the caster...

confessor is a 'zealot'? enchanting weapons and such...
