Are you fighting him with a fresh character or coming back to him after leveling up, gearing up, more tools, etc.?
Would strongly recommend circling back for him if only for vengeance. Unless you're a melee strength-based character that likes polearms, then maybe move him higher up on your list to take out (but still after you have more tools).
Sure, some players will try to keep fighting it before moving on with the rest of the game, but this enemy is a developer trap to see if you are bound to your pride and thirst for revenge.
Fortuntely, fast travel to site of grace will re-sync you with the servers.
You hit the nail on the head as I do take pride and will not progress on till I got the mini-boss....then again if it becomes a joke I might have to skip him.
I'm using a fresh character - The Samurai. Excellent character to start with imo and the rolls feel good compared to the Knight which is what I would usually play.
Thing is I don't want to skip this mini-boss thinking that it's ok and that I can do it for others without knowing I may need to beat it to continue or obtain something I want before I get more deep into the game.
I feel like it's a test and a way to start the game off. If I'm reading it all wrong then I'll avoid him.
Do you get horse later on, or soon? I don't mind spoilers.
Its teaching you that not all problems can be solved right away and you should come back. In a way hes a tutorial without being a tutorial.
I got stuck on his 2nd phase for some time too. I kept trying to roll into his AoE attacks thinking my iframes will save me, but it doesn't. In the end I had to roll away from in, at the right moment. The latter is important as some of the shield slams have delayed timing.
You get the horse quite early just follow the guidance of grace and unlock the sites of grace as you go.
Still shocked that's on by default.
