The Tree Sentinel is a joke
I've been at this mini-boss for 3 hours and I get so close but every time he does the shield bash or horse slam I'm getting f**ked for nothing. The hitbox is whack out of place. I would at times roll under him or to the side yet the shield catches me??!!

get the horse and then try fighting him.

So. Come back later. Do something else. No need to burn yourself out on a single boss.

Are you fighting him with a fresh character or coming back to him after leveling up, gearing up, more tools, etc.?

Would strongly recommend circling back for him if only for vengeance. Unless you're a melee strength-based character that likes polearms, then maybe move him higher up on your list to take out (but still after you have more tools).

Sure, some players will try to keep fighting it before moving on with the rest of the game, but this enemy is a developer trap to see if you are bound to your pride and thirst for revenge.

Try the Draconic Tree Sentinel guarantee you'll have a blast. :steamsad:
Yea, tree sentinel is no joke. You should come back later. When you see the item you get from defeating him, you'll see that the game doesn't really "expect" you to beat him at the start of the game.

Desynchronization is a huge issue in this game.

Fortuntely, fast travel to site of grace will re-sync you with the servers.

You hit the nail on the head as I do take pride and will not progress on till I got the mini-boss....then again if it becomes a joke I might have to skip him.

I'm using a fresh character - The Samurai. Excellent character to start with imo and the rolls feel good compared to the Knight which is what I would usually play.

Thing is I don't want to skip this mini-boss thinking that it's ok and that I can do it for others without knowing I may need to beat it to continue or obtain something I want before I get more deep into the game.

I feel like it's a test and a way to start the game off. If I'm reading it all wrong then I'll avoid him.

Do you get horse later on, or soon? I don't mind spoilers.

The tree Sentinel is actually a brilliant bit of design by fromsoft. Its intentionally hard on newer characters so your encouraged to go off the beaten path and explore.

Its teaching you that not all problems can be solved right away and you should come back. In a way hes a tutorial without being a tutorial.

I started as a wretch and I've gotten the morning star, some boots, gloves and a mailed helmet from those knight dudes and just enough levels to be able to use the morning star and take one or two of his normal hits without dying. I've gotten him down to ten or fifteen percent health and what's worse than those ramming attacks is when he jumps up and lands with a hard AoE attack that has ridiculous range. What's even worse is when one of those goats hops up onto a rock to see what's going on and your camera immediately decides to lock onto it because clearly that's far more desperate for your attention.

I got stuck on his 2nd phase for some time too. I kept trying to roll into his AoE attacks thinking my iframes will save me, but it doesn't. In the end I had to roll away from in, at the right moment. The latter is important as some of the shield slams have delayed timing.

It just takes patience and careful consideration of when to attack and when to dodge. I beat him eventually once I started to learn his attacks.

You get the horse quite early just follow the guidance of grace and unlock the sites of grace as you go.

Go into the settings and cut off the auto lock on ♥♥♥♥ will save you massive head aches from hence forth.

Still shocked that's on by default.
