Where is the Loot?
I went through 2 places, some cave with a big boss at the end and I found a door that lead to some catacombs that also had a big boss at the end. I didn't get a single reward, no items, equipment... nothing throughout the entire place.

It felt like going through both of those dungeons was completely pointless. Not very fun if you get nothing for it in the end. Am I missing something here?

I expect loot from every endeavour. Loot is the essence of life and to deny me my loot is to deny me my lifeblood.

Go play Diablo.
I think you mean "Go play Nioh."

Nioh is basically Dark Souls with more action-packed combat and Diablo-like loot drops. Very highly recommended.

No, I'm not expecting OMG Greatest sword in the game or anything. At least some items or something, anything really. Nothing just feels pointless. Like why put the dungeon there if it's for nothing.

For the fun of exploring the cave... sure I guess, but it still feels meh at the end if you get nothing is all I'm saying.

I'm gonna keep playing, just my thoughts on starting out. I;m still at the beginning of the game, just thought it was odd, i found 2 places so far and got nothing.I heard you should explore everywhere, the land is filled with hidden dungeons and stuff so that's what I was doing.

Makes me not want to explore. Just my take on it.
Well in Dark Souls 1&3 you could have the best weapon in game literally after 5 minutes of play.
You probably can in this too, the meta isn't established yet and knowing how From is, the best weapon in the game might just be some inoccuous straightsword or vanilla weapon that's a beast if you upgrade it. And once people know where certain Loot is, the loot runs will be really fun and fast just like those previous games. I can already see how I'd make my early loot run again if I rerolled the same character - go grab twinblade, go get the INT scaling ash from the beach, meteorite staff, clear the waypoint ruins to buy more spells, rush to roundtable for memory slot upgrade ,etc.

Usually I get a talisman or an ash, both can be very powerful. Not sure why you get nothing.
Apart from that, usually people kill bosses just for the accomplishment, not for the loot, and exploring is its own reward (at least for people who like open worlds).

I'm getting talismans constantly from mini dungeons. More than ashes. Also most of the minidungeons have upgrading materials

Every single mini dungeon boss gives an item reward for me so far, his game has to be bugged if he didn't get anything

I never even talked about summons. You must have read someone else's post. I haven't gotten any summons from the cave or the catacombs mini dungeons I did, not even from the boss.

I got nothing which is why I said the dungeons felt pointless. I was told my discovery stat affects that so I'm gonna try those dungeons later when it's higher.
Well then I'm confused, you're right it was someone else talking about ashes. You definitely get item rewards for completing those dungeons, are you sure you killed the bosses and completed them?

Ya, I for sure killed all enemies in every room and killed the boss at the end. One room had 4 creatures in it and I killed them all and I was like well that room was pointless, I didn't even need to go that way, so I went back and down the other path.

Finally got to the boss and it was some big ass creature with a huge weapon that swung across half the room when he attacked, He was pretty tough but I got him. It said "enemy felled" or something like that on the screen.

There was a thing on the ground that said return to entrance so I went on that and left the dungeon with nothing. Just thought to myself, "That was a waste of 20 minutes"

But like I said, I'll go back to those later.

Is there a chance that sometimes they drop items but sometimes they won't drop anything and I got unlucky then?

I’d settle for a bit more in the souls department.

You get far less than needed for levelling from the entire dungeons prior to the castle.

Drops from bosses are not affected by Item discovery and always drop when defeated.
the boss from the dungeon you mentioned, Stormfoot catacombs always drops "Noble Sorcerer Ashes" directly into your inventory, you likely didn't notice. Most bosses drop their loot this way, as opposed to the shining interactable light orbs regular enemies drop.

Talismans = Rings from DS3
Loot = Weaponarts from DS3
Armors = 1% of DS3 variety
Mobs = Reused from DS3 with very few new ones, also reused DS3 attacks/movement.
The only new stuff seems to be spells but who wants to play this clunky magic system? Noone.

Check the ashes part of your inventory, do you have the noble sorcerer? If so then that's what you got as a reward, it's an item that summons the noble sorcerer.
Nope, I've been though my inventory multiple times, Possible my game is bugged then. I'm so close to the start, I'll just start over with a new character then and do the catacombs again and see it I get anything.

I'll post if I get anything if any of you care and are curious. Thanks everyone.

In short : "loot" really start after first boss.

The starting zone is like tutorial and i feel i have nothing when i'm at first boss too. But after that its good.

Oh god... I can't even get out of this tutorial zone.... I guess this game really isn't for me.

That's not true, the reason why Magrit is so hard is because the game is trying to tell you "There's a lot to do before this". Which there is. Those mini dungeons (catacombs, ruins, tunnels, caves, etc) and points of interest and world bosses will reward you with runes, rune items, talismans, spirit ashes, ashes of war, you can find a third type of flask that lets you combine buffs onto it. I found a big world boss called the mariner, it was a skeleton boat, it was way easier than the tree sentinel and was designed to teach you mounted combat at a slower easier pace than the tree knight. But the tree knight is the first one you see, don't get fixated on stuff you can't do, find things you can do. That's how the game works. You do get significant rewards from doing all this stuff, after finishing like 6 or 7 of those areas and running around a bit more to get some map pieces, I came back to Magrit with a +4 magic weapon, heal every time i backstab, S scaling magic staff, etc

One of the best 'early things to do' is clear the gate camp at the base of storm hill. There is the thing that introduces changing weapon arts (It's not called that here, but that's what it is) and also, something VERY valuable: A map of the beginners area. While it doesn't have a TON of detail, it does still show buildings and such on it, which gives you some massive hints on places that may be of interest.
