Disable vsync option?
I want to try freesync but don't see a way to disable this in the options.

Thanks

you can do it manually from the nvidia control panel, however, i had significant screen tear afterwards

Freesync is AMD. Gsync (superior) is Nvidia
Thanks. My AMD control panel doesn't work (common bug and I tried all the fixes). I tried putting freesync on with my monitor but it closes out Elden Ring.

You should enable hardware sync options before starting software, although it's possible that there is a compatibility issue. Some games get a bit finicky with Gsync or Freesync

For some reason I seem to have to do it in-game on most games to make it work. It depends on the game though. Sometimes even if the monitor is set to freesync on, a game won't sync until I select it off and back on again in-game.

I'm not sure it would even help the issues with ER as they are probably related to the port but figured I'd give it a shot.
On the "some games get finicky" front, others don't.

I don't know the technical details of how or why, but some games have their own Vsync option be completely compatible with either Freesync or G-SYNC to where you don't have to turn it off, while others will cause problems when left on.

Curious which kind of game Elden Ring's vsync option is, better left on or should be off when used with display refresh sync techs like Freesync/G-SYNC.
I usually run with vsync off in all games and then use freesync. I also normally cap using Riva.

I'll probably wait for the patch to improve things on their end before messing with this more.

You must have a 60hz monitor. At 240hz i have zero screen tearing with vsycn off.
VSync turns on each time you launch the game. I have to turn it off myself every time I load in.

Probably useless to revive this thread but guys... G-sync/Freesync is not meant to replace v-sync. It's is meant to reduce the input and display latency that comes with v-sync. In other words you use v-sync to get rid of screen tearing, and G-sync/Freesync to get rid of the lag that comes with it.

https://blurbusters.com/gsync/gsync101-input-lag-tests-and-settings/

"However, with G-SYNC enabled, the “Vertical sync” option in the control panel no longer acts as V-SYNC, and actually dictates whether, one, the G-SYNC module compensates for frametime variances output by the system (which prevents tearing at all times. G-SYNC + V-SYNC “Off” disables this behavior; see G-SYNC 101: Range),

This is how G-SYNC was originally intended to function. Unlike G-SYNC + V-SYNC “Off,” G-SYNC + V-SYNC “On” allows the G-SYNC module to compensate for sudden frametime variances by adhering to the scanout, which ensures the affected frame scan will complete in the current scanout before the next frame scan and scanout begin. This eliminates tearing within the G-SYNC range, in spite of the frametime variances encountered.

Frametime compensation with V-SYNC “On” is performed during the vertical blanking interval (the span between the previous and next frame scan), and, as such, does not delay single frame delivery within the G-SYNC range and is recommended for a tear-free experience"

"Enable V-Sync and G-Sync in the control panel. Disable V-Sync in-game.

If you completely turn off all V-Sync options when G-Sync is active, you will get tearing within your monitor's range."

I'll add to this, that having both the in-game vsync and the control panel vsync on will virtually add no delay (it will be a matter of microsecconds, negligeable).

Now you know everything :)

Thanks for the info. As your post says though it needs to be turned off in game which was what the post was about.
