Disabling EAC fixed all my performance issues.
Played for a few hours, stutters during boss fights, using weapon skills, going to new areas, ect. Now none of this was unplayable by any means, but it was noticeable and annoying. Frame drops on top of stuttering, from 60 down to 40 and almost always in combat. Enough to dampen my enjoyment. I found a fake start_protected_game.exe online from a source that I trust, forces the game to load without EAC. Boom, no more performance issues, no more stutters, I haven't seen a single frame drop in 6 hours. Sure I can't play online, but wasn't going to be doing any co-op or pvp anyway so meh.

How to disable it?

Not only that but unlocked framerate and similar issues can be fixed with mods if you disable EAC.

https://www.flawlesswidescreen.org/

The Flawlesswidescreen devs required a whopping 10 hours of work to get ultrawide resolutions working, add a FoV Slider, add frametime adjustments to combat lagspikes, disable Vignette (+other annoying effects in a future update) and allow an unlocked framerate with proper VRR support.

But apparently fanatic fromsoft cult followers on steam and reddit still say that a 5,2 billion dollar company with 316 workers would have a hard time implementing those standard features every proper PC port nowadays has and say people should stop asking for those features to be added.

Again: How to disable EAC?
Lion-In-A-Box Feb 25, 2022 @ 4:17am
I think you disable it by going to steamfolder\steamapps\common\ELDEN RING\Game, backup & rename the start_protected_game.exe . Take the eldenring.exe, make a copy, and rename the copy to start_protected_game.exe .

Not surprised. Is there some way to get the game to load without EAC other than DL'ing some .exe ?

That does remove the EAC splash screen.

You don't need to download anything.

flawless widescreen fixed a lot of my issues by uncapping the fps

Unfortunately EAC isn't the only culprit. I just attempted disabling it and while I can boot up the game without it in offline mode, my issues persist.

I tested a pirated version and a license, because you know how it usually is, because of denuvo. But there's no denuvo here, what could go wrong?

Pirated gives me around 10 fps more in open world.
My guess would be because of EAC.

Way to go, game devs, cucking your own customers. Now really tempted to just refund.

Oh really?
I will try and see if it helps.

Is it pretty much confirmed now EAC is behind most of these issues?? It would be great news to identify the problem this quickly and fix it.
