Do Fromsoftware develop games *on* controllers ?
I understand console companies want to sell overpriced controllers and accessories, but from the UI configurability in this it would seem they have never used a keyboard.
*Unconfigurable "G" for Map ?* on a PC game set to mouse and keyboard ?
The only way to summon the mount is to take my hand off the mouse (E + Up arrow).. again unconfigurable.
I have a mouse with as many or more buttons than most controllers yet I cant set one of those buttons to heal or summon the mount or anything other than dodge ...

Really the game is fun and all but the developers must do this deliberately as the lack of intelligence needed by someone to not think of this would disqualify them from working at anything but road sweeping. .

G for map....
Hand off mouse to call the mount ...
Cant set an individual button for flask ...
On a £50+ AAA game sold on PC in 2022.
Clowns.

Who plays open world 3rd person rpg games designed for controller on a Keyboard and mouse lol. First person - K+M will always be superior. Third person - Controller will always be superior because it's far more immersive to use. Keyboard+Mouse is less immersive but more direct, perfect for fp perspective. Controller is more immersive for third person as you are controlling the person you see on the screen. Play on controller and you will be happy.

I played dark souls 3 and sekiro in mouse and keyboard. Sekiro is perfectly serviceable, albeit with an outdated UI design. Dark Souls 3 is still playable, but the UI is even worse.

FromSoftware is (at least in my opinion) notorious for garbage UI in menus and inventories. They just don't understand how to make menus.

To the first reply, almost every game can be played with keyboard and mouse, and souls-likes are no exception.

I can play on K+M on open world 3rd person, but not a souls game. it is way to hard for a new player on K+M, I tried and I want my control (either of them) to work. sigh... can't play a game I have waited about a year to try. very depressing....

Game is meant for controller. Not every game is meant to be mouse and keyboard.

While Fromsoft's other games have had serviceable mouse and keyboard support it's always worth remembering that these games are developed exclusively with controllers in mind. These sorts of games are simply best suited to them, so other forms of controls are simply an afterthought.

It's a 3rd person RPG. Why are you playing on anything but a controller??

This isn't an FPS, controller are the optimal and most comfortable way to play.

Why would I use an inferior input device when I already own a better one ? Controllers limit the camera movement in precision and speed. Coming from KB and M to controller is like going from normal walking to using crutches.
If you consider everything being less responsive "immersive" then thats fine, but I dont !

I played Severance blades of darkness, a PC game that was basically dark souls nearly 10 years before dark souls.

It was fine on keyboard and mouse. What's Fromsoftware's excuse again?

That would be funny

Thats just your subjective opinion. Holding a controller is no way even close to as comfortable as arms apart resting on wrist rests for me.

It's been like that with all their titles, they admitted they don't know how to do PC ports since Dark Souls 1, and it seems they have not been willing to learn or improve much since. Although DS3 was marginally better and could be played with keyboard/mouse, it still wasn't perfect and still only had console button prompts.

FromSoft might be good at gameplay and storytelling, but technology-wise they seem to be stuck in 2010 in many ways.

Sure, these games might play better on a controller, but this isnt 1990 anymore.. no excuse to not have customisable keybinds

Except that "Dark Souls before Dark Souls" was Demon's Souls. And Before that it was King's Field.

There is no inferior or superior here. Keyboard and Mouse is better in some ways and worse in others. Controller is better in some ways and worse in others. As you mentioned controller isn't as quick or precise at camera movement, but what quick camera movements are you making in 3rd person exactly?

As for "coming from KB and M to controller is like going from normal walking to using crutches", what gamer can't use both? I can very easily pick up literally any controller and use it perfectly fine. I can also use a keyboard perfectly fine as well.. This complaint you have is similar to someone going to work at say fast food and being like "I can use the grill but not the deep fryer because I learned the grill already." Seriously, are you completely incapable of learning something else just because you already learned another thing?

Nah it's an objective fact. The game is designed for consoles. I appreciate that people want working and customizable mouse and keyboard controls. I want them to. Doesn't change the object fact the game is meant to be played with a controller. It was literally designed on a controller.
