Cant use my Xbox controller

Why?

EDIT:
For me following things fixed my problem:
-Unplug every device which could act like a controller. By me, i had the wheel Logitech G920
-Under Steam > Settings > Controller > Generell Controller Settings > Turn on both Xbox Configuration Settings
-Elden Ring > Propertis > Controller > Enable Steam input

For me after unplug my wheel it worked for me, no idea if i had to done the other 2 steps.

i solved it !

I started the game - Controller was recognized by Steam but inputs didnt work - then i unpluged my Keyboard and my mouse - my Ps4 Controller was pluged in a USB HUB -. Without any other way to have an Input my Controller worked!

Since than i restarted my PC and Steam, it is still working !

vayan a la librería, click derecho en elden ring, opción "mando", seleccionen Steamp input.

Tried Stadia Controller and PS4 controller. Can't get both to work while both work fine in Big Picture Mode. Starting to get pissed.

Update: Thanks for the help guys. Unplugging literally everything USB but the controller did the trick for me too.

Tried all of these and none of them work within Elden Ring, but I can get them to work on literally everything else including Big Picture and using the Xbox Bar when opened in Elden Ring. I'm with the crowd having to wait on a fix now, which usually does not happen to me, I now feel the RAGE!

I solved the missing controller problem by putting all my flight sim controllers on a powered hub and the Xbox controller directly to the PC - when I want to play Elden ring - power down the USB hub -- want to use the flight simulator - power -up the usb hub -- not elegant but it works.

Tried literally every possible solutions that is out there - no luck. I have an xbox one controller and my joysticks work just fine, but buttons wont work at all

Currently using an Xbox One controller. Works fine. Both PS4 and PS5 controllers work fine as well. You just have to deal with Xbox button prompts. Main reason why I use the Xbox One.

Like he said, you need to deconnect all of other controllers but I have better.

Launch the game, while loading deconnect keyboard, mouse + controllers (including the one you are using) then connect ONLY the controller you want to use.

After that, when you press a button on your controller it should work.
Now you can reconnect all of your USB devices.

You'll need to redo all of these steps when relauching the game

My Pro 2 works wirelessly, but it freezes the whole game if it's plugged in. The freezing and unfreezing actually happens in real time as I plug in and unplug the controller. It's infuriating, because the Pro 2 is my favorite controller.
