Cant use my Xbox controller

Why?

EDIT:
For me following things fixed my problem:
-Unplug every device which could act like a controller. By me, i had the wheel Logitech G920
-Under Steam > Settings > Controller > Generell Controller Settings > Turn on both Xbox Configuration Settings
-Elden Ring > Propertis > Controller > Enable Steam input

For me after unplug my wheel it worked for me, no idea if i had to done the other 2 steps.

I learned this from Guardians of the Galaxy recently, but the app developer has to enable specific controllers to be used in Steam, in order for you to use the controller by default.

It looks like the guys over at Namco forgot to do that for Elden Ring.

Worry not! You can fix this by overriding the developer settings.
- If you're in the game now, close it out first.
- Right-click on Elden Ring in your Library and choose Properties
- In the new window, click on CONTROLLER in the left-hand menu.
- Click on the dropdown that currently says "Use default settings" and change it to "Enable Steam Innput".
- Close the settings window and relaunch the game.

Your XBOX controller should now work fine with Elden Ring. And, let's face it, since they forgot to update every single freaking interface to show keyboard and mouse inputs, this is the only way to play.

It might be an issue with the devices in the device manager "Human Interface Devices". Not sure though.
I read that some unplugged their Keyboard and Mouse and other devices that might act as controllers and then it worked

If nothing works then you can try this. Worked for me but it is a workaround:

Go to Steam Library --> Right Click Elden Ring --> Properties --> Controller --> Select "Enable Steam Input"

Then go to Steam Big Picture --> Library --> Select Elden Ring --> Manage Game --> Controller Configuration

Then you have to set the Buttons according to the Keyboard Layout.

Navigating the menu at the start is still annoying but playing the game works fine.

Phew, okay I finally got mine working with a few annoying specific steps with my XBox One controller:

1. Launch "Big Picture" mode, and enable the "Xbox Configuration Support" in the Controller Settings
2. IMPORTANT: Literally unplug your keyboard and mouse
3. Launch Elden Ring via Steam Big Picture mode

After its launched I was able to plug my keyboard and mouse back in to write this message... Hopefully this helps someone.

what ended up working for me is unplugging my joystick AND throttle which I forgot I had plugged in! Controller works now after you've enabled the controller for the game in your library etc Good luck!

Logitech Gamepad F310 doesn't work too. It displays an image of an Xbox controller and cannot change any buttons.
