Starting class?
I'm going into this absolutely blind, have barely watched anything passed a brief overview of the classes available in the beta and some trailers.

I've really been thinking about started as the wretch and doing a play-though till I figure out the world and weapons/magic/pyromancy/prayers.

What class do you will be starting as?

Only use Wretch as a deliberate challenge, and ignore anyone trying to tell you it is a "good start" instead of taking it for what it is.

As a heads up about pyromancy. While the healer cleric style prophet may have a combustion clone. Looks like Arcane will be needed for cool pyromancies still? The net test showed the "Fire breathing dragon head" spell needs nearly as much arcane as it does faith.

Also, never underestimate your starting gear. Anyone who has actually played a souls game (and isn't lying to themself or others) knows how wildly arbitrary souls games are with when or where (or once ever) you can get seemingly basic equipment.

Which can get downright bizzare and petty at times. Like being told you are a filthy casual for asking "Why can you loot only one shortsword per NG in Darksouls 2?" while swimming in darksteel katanas.

Yep, thats why I will use this class on my first play through - I am very new to this kind of game.

Ohhhhhh my god, you're going to have so much fun.

I want to play as a caster deciding on either a faith or int build somewhat blind. Leaning towards an Astrologer. Maybe default to a dex int thing. I just don't know if faith for heals and dps would be better than pure int casters this time around.

I usually go pyromancer so definitely looking forward to trying out casters, I thin I'm actually going to make 2 characters and play them in turns, progressing first with wretch to explore the world and then when I've figured stuff out, going through the same areas with my caster

I want the silent foot steps for when I invade. :demoticon:

Confessor I believe was one of the one's that caught my eye also

My favorite build was with the Demon's scar. I actually updated my build occasionally for awhile when I was getting stuff in DS3 https://mugenmonkey.com/darksouls3/130066 its old now but Pyro in DS3 was awesome. I think magic in general is wild this time making me want to go more for generic mage guy first. tbh I might make a faith, pyro and an int build. If resetting stats and things are easy then switch things out on the same character occasionally

While I dunno if guns are in, maybe explosive crossbow bolts will make a comeback.

Vagabond or Hero, male character of course.

I know, I've been playing since first souls game ^^ Usually I play games on the most difficult settings possible to start out because you learn so much quicker, if everything is 1 shoting you, you quickly learn movement patterns, what attacks you can block and most importantly, what's actually doing damage, consider in a lot of souls game, starting weapons can 1 hit kill starting enemies (Well i guess souls games typically pit you against a boss as soon as you figure out how to walk lol) but if you have tougher enemies, I've always found it easier to learn moves sets, damage types, where damage potential is coming from etc

From what I've seen there are some sick af dex weapons, the spears look really cool

Yeah honestly I can see myself making a few characters and running though the game with wretch as a sort of scout, I'm a little concerned with the OP poise builds being so prevalent in the previous series so I'm going to make a buff 2 handed poise built mfker just to be safe but my preference has always been pyromancer/hex (I actually really liked the hexes in DS2, conceptually and visually)

possibly confessor, unless bows and crossbows get intersting this time and not the basic poke one enemy to kine them weapon. like if greatbows are worth it, then i dont know, gotta build around a new playstyle

Usually I'd just pick the generic knight class but playing Wretch just feels right for an open world game
Skog Feb 23, 2022 @ 9:40pm

So many vegabonds, makes me think maybe I should be starting with a class that directly counters them lol
