I would almost suggest playing Dark Souls series first. Why? Once you play Elden it is really hard to go back to older Souls games.

Yeah. Most of the lore is pieced together through tidbits from conversations with various NPCs and item descriptions. It's rarely straightforward and in your face.

While the Dark Souls games have a LOOSE connection to one another and you'll get a little more out of them if you've played the ones that came before, you don't need to have played any other Souls game before this one outside of maybe to understand how the game works with it's mechanics, but if you're planning on playing on release it's a bit late for that.

I used to think this, as I started with DS3. JUST before i beat DS3, I stopped, then immediately went and beat DS1 (which I ironically liked even more).
