Luckily your respect isn't something anyone needs right?
It's not even that. Some wretched pickers seem to want to make others (or themselves) believe that they have chosen hardmode, which is just not true, and even if it was it would be for like 5 minutes.
You mean the first 5 minutes when you go up the elevator and go 10 meters to the church vendor that sells armor and weapons? What sense of discovery lmao.
High Strength has always felt like the most OP option to go with, at least as far as PvE is concerned.
I'm still advocating for the Wretch as the best start for the first play-though. It gives you a good spread, allowing you to try a variety of discovered equipment, and develop your build as you play. It's not about optimizing or the PvP meta; it's about getting the most enjoyment out of the best part of the game: discovery.
Once you've played it through, know where things are, and have an idea of a new build you want to try, that's when you should go with another class.
