Which class seems optimal for Str/Int build?
I was thinking of starting Str/Int build (Enchanted Knight was fun in beta) but dunno how much I can actually ignore Dex stat. Prisoner seems nice from first glance but it has high Dex. Hero also seems nice with only 1 extra point in Arcane while having lower than average Dex.

Game's not out yet which obviously means no one knows the facts yet but how was it done in previous games?

Honestly, since all classes have the same amount of stat points when you add them up and subtract the level. Just look at what points are wasted in stats you care nothing about. In your case, Arcane and Faith. Lowest class for that is Prisoner with 15, followed by Samurai/Vagabond/Astrologian all at 16. Prisoner's 14 Dex is probably going to be wasted stats. So second place goes to the Astrologian with 12 Dex. Which gains 1 extra attribute points to spend at the cost of 2 Dex. It really depends on the dex value of the weapon you're planning to use. For me the Claymore is always a good comfort pick weapon which takes 13 dex, so I'd take the Prisoner for an extra point in the (weak) Dex scaling and spell casting speed.

Oh yeah forgot to consider starting spells. Considering Prisoner at this point now from those other points as well.

If i recall you start at Lv 1 so cost to go up is much cheaper and everything is 10 to begin with.

Tbh though, Don't go off BETA classes Dark souls 3 had some uniques that got scrapped last min. Could be that they just made some of them to exist for beta.

They've announced the starting classes for Elden RIng... or they've leaked, I'm not particularly sure. Either way they're out. Wretch (Deprived) starts with 10 in all base stats at level 1.

Vagabond is fairly ideal for any STR hybrid build. Prisoner would also work fine I think, because a lot of STR weapons will still have DEX requirements somewhere in the low to mid teens.
Daemeous 2022 年 2 月 16 日 下午 4:09
The starting stat points you benefit from only matter for the first 30-60 minutes of gameplay. The wasted stat points affect you all the way to the end game. Starting gear and spells can affect you for less or more time. If you have 2 wasted points, you'll always be 2 soul levels weaker than if you didn't. But Prisoner apparently starts with 'glintstone sorceries' as does the Astrologian. So either one is a pretty safe bet, but I think the Prisoner edges it out for a first playthrough, since the extra Dex means you can equip more weapons to experiment with.

I'm doing a Strength Faith first playthough, Vagabond is the clear winner in that regard. No spells to start with but a very forgiving stat distribution with that high Vigor and the fewest wasted points in Int and Arcane. Plus perfect Dex for my Comfort Claymore. And I can pump that Faith once I start getting the spells worth using!

Prisoner or Vagabond are probably the best bets. Bonus points for Prisoner because they look creepy.

The point totals per level are not any better for wretch than the other classes at a glance, so all the people suggesting wretch for *insert stat combo here* are either poorly informed, or just screwing with people on purpose.

More so if all the tears about points in Arcane being a "wasted stat" turn out to be even slightly true. As wretch has one of the higher arcane stats of 10, while all the INT caster starts have sub 10 arcane. And Vagabond has the lowest at 7.

(I am still holding out for the surprise reveal that arcane is the side stat for summons power scaling or some comedy)

Also low Faith is also a bonus for me in starting class because I'm not gonna touch it in first playthrough most likely.

I did try it in Beta but Beast Claws had a glitch or utility problems on shallow water (claws disappear almost immediately) and it made me hate the spell.

But so far Prisoner seems to be good idea. Not caring too much about spell casting speed that comes from Dex but I can only guess that some STR based or Int weapons might have 12-15 Dex requirements in long run.

I'm going FTH plus either DEX or STR for a first build. Starting as Confessor so I can get both stats to 14 or 15 quick and play around with a bunch of different weapon movesets, I'll decide which of the two stats to commit to after that. Obviously I'll be pumping vigor first and starting with the HP talisman, though.
Nihrahk 2022 年 2 月 16 日 下午 6:22
Vagabond or prisoner. They might have a bunch of dex, but str weapons sometimes require a little dex to use. GS and CoGS (they renamed UGS to Colossal Greatswords) have had some moments where you need about 12-13 dex to even use them so you might save some wasted points into dex if you decide to use weapons like them. This isn't always the case of course...

Assuming you want Vgr, End, Str, Int, and Mnd stats (Dex, Fth, Arcane will be trash stats):
Hero or Astrologer. If dex is a concern, pick Astrologer (higher dex than hero, with lower arcane).

Str+Fth build would be Prophet followed by Hero, one level difference. (Trash Stats: Dex, Int, Arcane)

Honestly, I've seen some things about Arcane having some potential. Like an Arcane scaling Lifesteal Ash of War, some Int spells scaling with dual scaling with Int and Arc...

But I can't say I trust any of these sources, if they're true though, an Arcane playthrough could be something fun in future, just like in Bloodborne, but I'd say it's probably something to do when armed with knowledge of where you're gonna find those, not for your blind first playthrough where you're gonna stumble across viable options for Str/Dex/Int/Faith builds.
