How does anyone beat this game with a colossal weapon?

I'm at the capital right now. Maybe it's just because I haven't had enough practice, but I tried using a colossal sword here and it just wasn't happening. I could barely hit anybody, meanwhile they all ran circles around me. Switched back to my claymore + bastard sword combo and everything instantly felt 10x easier.

I did a run in Dark Souls 1 where I solo'd every boss in the game using a large club, including the DLC bosses (I didn't use heavy armor or a great shield, so I couldn't just tank through hits). So either colossal weapons suck in this game or I just suck at using them.

They are pretty good, you just have less openings

Ofc it is weak compared to a lot of stuff but they are still perfectly viable

Stagger is this weapon class forte. If you can't stagger an enemy and it have a wombo combo, then you're pretty much dead.

Thankfuly, only a few enemies can't be staggered by each of a colossal weapon hit, so it's mostly hit>hit>hit> retreat until stamina full > repeat.

Some of them are gimpy, and they are stuck with the ash of war that comes with it. I suggest leveling little faith and getting Fire grant me Strength, and Golden Vow Incantations . Both complement Str Colossal weapon builds, and stack on each other as well.

Colossal weapons have a lot of delay at the end of a swing so you really have to be familiar with openings and how long you have after swinging them, crouch attacks are usually safe to poke with.

STR builds while capable of dumping damage in this game are unfortunately crippled in certain circumstances. Timing your hits and attempting the stagger at all costs is mostly the name of the game.

My first build in this game was the colossal weapon STR build using the Grafted Greatsword.
I was GOD until Malenia.
She broke me to using Rivers of Blood.
I still murdered the rest of the Gods using the STR build tho.
Seriously, ♥♥♥♥ Malenia's anime BS.

basically the dodge + R1 attack/crouch + R1 attack, its quick even on colossal weapons and counter fast bosses
can also recommend speccing into shields and using guard counters which are also fast & powerful attacks

Crouch poke on colossal GS is the best thing to spam on Malenia. It’s quick.

You either have to build towards jump attacks, which is very high burst at long intervals or give up on that and use dual curved beastman's for consistent high damage.
