Not meeting stats for a shield?

What actually happens if you don't meet the STR requirements for a greatshield? Does it affect blocking/stamina use in anyway or just the damage if you hit people with the shield?

I am thinking about respeccing, but didn't notice anything besides damage go down, so I am wondering if thats the only negative to using a greatshield you don't have STR for.

I think you take more stam damage with each block?
But I could be wrong.

If you dont have requirements you also cant use the skill if i recall

If you block with it, it'll work, but it'll take a lot more of your stamina to do it and will likely lead to your guard being broken.
