Fast travel kinda spoils the game
Im all for the different shortcuts you can unlock in souls games. And in a way im ok with the occasional portal/teleporter you find while exploring. But not a fan of being able to open map and fast travel anywhere, no journey really has a purpose when you can jump around the map like crazy. At least lose runes on fast travel so it needs to become a decision. And at the very very most only allow fast travel from sites of grace, not in the middle of the woods

yea i bet everybody is fine with walking 5min back to a boss, grace or old area. Dude its literally a quality of life improvement. It was an aspect from the old soulsgames that always sucked ass since if you get lost you either had to die or find your way back. Its not challenging just annoying. You cant get shortcuts in an open world game. They still exist in every legacy dungeon still, just like in Dark Souls.

If you dont like them then just dont fricking use it..

Good lord no it doesn't. Fast travel makes life more convenient. So many games these days waste your time - it's why I can't stand Red Dead 2. Everything takes forever and it's awful. Like the person above me said perfectly: if you don't like fast travel, don't use it. Problem solved. Elden Ring is already a game that takes hundreds of hours to see everything and that is more than enough for me.

I tend not to, but the fact that it exists at all makes it tempting. Id prefer not to even have a choice then it doesnt even become something to think about. Thanks for your input though, appreciate it. :)

You have to travel to each place manually at least once, meaning you get that feeling of exploration and journey. If you had to ride your horse across the GIGANTIC map every time then like 99% of people, including me, would not have time to play this game.

Idk man, i have a job, its very time consuming moving the huge ass map just to get the fart medalion i left behind in that cave.

'I don't like this thing I don't have to use, so make it so others are inconvenienced'. :steamfacepalm:

FYI I haven't tried it, but I just googled it and there is a mod on Nexus Mods that looks like it would do what you want... they call it "warping", but it looks like it disables most fast traveling. Maybe check it out:

agree with this.
Also looks like all progress designed to very few fast travel points available but we got what we got.

With a map this big, Fast travelling should definitely exist. But Graces are perhaps too frequent this time.

Removing fast travel fully would not do the game as it is any favours, but freedom of fastrravel makes level designers lazy. First half of DS was glorious because there wasn't an option to teleport anywhere and the game was built around that with multiple ways to any location, while after Anor Londo a lot of that lecel design went away, because now everybody had a teleport.
DS2 had fast travel from beginning and it's level connections are abyssmal.
DS3 had great design within the locations, but nothing in terms of different ways to access the same one.

Elden Ring is a mixbag in this way - "legacy dungeons" are mostly great with progression. Due to jumping and open nature it gets downplayed a lot, but small dungeons and caves are just dead ends with teleport back. From some you can't even backtrack out and have to teleport.

They should create levels without fast travel in mind and make it an unlockable after ~you get your first great rune.

I've recently tried to do a "maidenless run" (it's futile) and didn't sit at any graces. After beginning - I went right to Caelis trough a trap chest in Dragonburnt Ruins. I did not understand that my fastravel was blocked because of a trap chest and thought the game wanted to force Melina on me. From Caelid all the way to Capital Outskirts and back down to Liurnia without teleportation was a great experience. Sadly, then I decided to visit Latenna and had to sit at a grace, because you can't get out from her place without fast traveling.

Tl;dr - fast travel is a good convenience, but it also frees level designers from worries and makes them lazy.

I can't even imagine the complaints if there was no fast travel and people had to hoof it all over that map for quests, etc...

OP needs to play more open world games... :steamfacepalm:

I agree with you but modern gaming don't got time for that.
FreakyFred 28 MAR 2022 a las 9:24 a. m.
I honestly agree with your point it does spoil you in the same way it just feels really slow even when running without using the horse or getting mad there is not a stake of marika outside the rennala fight even though compared to older games it's insanely close from the grace. We all are truly blessed to have these quality of life changes I'm just waiting for all dual wielding to have blocking and be able to use ballista and great bow on horse.
