saw a note also that crossbows are awesome in PVP scenarios since you can prime them for later use. good roll-catchers, or so i'm told.
something something "But ranged combat is overpoweeeeeerd!" *shoots fire arrow at a slime weak to fire and still does ♥♥♥♥ all damage. bonks it with a torch instead*
Well they can then turn around and catch you when you need to stop and reload the thing, is another snag there.
But hey, still more off the cuff user friendly than the hand ballista "Stop to reload for three seconds after you shoot no-takebacks"... shame regular crossbows on horseback make you come to a dead stop to reload, because ??
So far best damage I'm pulling from a bow is around 700 per shot, and that's using Mighty Shot Ash.
Wrong analogy, casting spells require FP.
Yup bows are resource intensive, but offer the best bang for your buck with how you can use them to cheese enemies with no added attributes besides str/dex
close combat with a long bow or shortbow, low flying enemies with bows can multi shot while your tracking is so ♥♥♥♥ it will miss them when they are flying slowly toward you in a straight line (or a rat crawling in a straight line at you on the rafters, etc). And stopping to manual aim snap shot over trash tracking feels really sad even when you nail a headshot or other trick shots.
*shoots fire arrow at bird carrying an explosive barrel and the bird outflies the explosion somehow*
long range combat. Even absurd ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ like the hand ballista (which lists the same effective range stat as a longbow/greatbow for some reason? maybe it scales up better on the big bows). EVEN if you put on the effective range boost talisman. Your shots seem to love to drop short before reaching enemies still in their perfect zero drop laser accurate arrow snipe range, even if they are using a normal greatbow or horned bow.
I love bows enough for utility to always carry one in my back pocket for "oh look another enemy clinging on a wall or ceiling outside of dart range, cool" tag. and my eye to roiding out endurance this time around is so I can carry a 20 ammo capacity per ammo type hand ballista for a laugh ANYWAYS. But still, yeesh.
I find Crossbows far better, just cause you can actually use them on one hand, and you have the Pulley one which is amazing for Status building.
But generally, range weapons suck, for starters, give them at least SOME tracking? a tiny bit, if enemies projectiles will follow me then why not ours?, buff the scaling of Bows, the fact that they are stuck at D a max upgrade is stupid, and buff dmg of Crossbows since those dont scale.
Buff the dmg, and allows us to buy Feathers, having to farm the stupid penguins to get feathers is both boring and annoying.
alongside "Okay so they really are a little weak to fire but... still still barely worth bothering... eh ♥♥♥♥ it" *runs unto room full of little and big poison flowers to melee them*
The whole point of those bows was the dmg and range they had, which compensated their slow speed
