Katanas v Longswords
Katanas have
- longer reach
- better base damage
- better scaling
and bleed to top it off?

Honestly, what's the reasoning here?

iirc katanas have terrible wind up vs. straight swords.

I don't care what kind of katana it is, it will always be inferior to the Baller Swag Sword.
Katanas are not excepted with a lot of players.

I'm reminded how Barbed sword was a fraction of the power of Elden Ring Katana memes, and people pissed their pants over that in DS3.

Though at the very least from a "Things people take for granted" standpoint. The heaviest straight sword is lighter than the lightest katana.

Longswords have a faster moveset and yeah I guess that's it

Combination of "it is always anime grade katanas instead of the working man's hanzo steel"

and

"Yes there are people who whine and cry that longswords are already too long and should be shorter ugh even basic longsword so OP" tears are already a thing in the fanbase, and also every game with "regular swords, bigger swords. giga swords" categories.

"Watch out ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, I've got an arming sword! Sure I can't literally one shot kill certain people with it like that guy with 80 kills and a zweihander, but clearly I'm the OP ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ player here if the comments are anything to go by"

Long swords have a higher stagger tier so you can stun enemies faster and also cause boss staggers.

This ends up feeling like "Blunt weapons are strong vs X!" vs the reality of watching an enemy casually poise through your power stance mace+morning star combo. Especially when it isn't even a boss, but "whole crowd of them" fodder.

If your decision point between katanas vs straight sword use is "But think of the stun potential!", expect to be let down, and so desperate for validation you will claim any stuns you actually get are because 'straight sword stun so strong, honest'
