Pure STR greatsword pick
Hello,

I'm like 30 hours into the game, going STR build, and have found several weapons but almost zero greatswords. I have Lordsworn's greatsword +6 from the very beginning of the game and the fast slashes are cool. I tried collosal weapons (greatsword / grafted blade), but they are slow as ♥♥♥♥ and unusable for me.

What fast weapon for STR build do you recommend? From what I saw recently greatswords are mostly STR + FAITH / INT weapons and collosal weapons are pure STR weapons, but I may be wrong. I was thinking about Marais Executioner's Sword or Ordovi's greatsword.

PS: If you have other recommendations for pure str weapons (not only greatswords) you can write it here as well ;)

Cheers :)

Running Great Stars warhammer with a greatshield in my off-hand.

I used to run battle hammer, but it is frankly too short and misses a lot of guard counters for that reason. Great Stars does slightly less damage but is longer, leeches a small amount of health on hit and applies bleed fairly reliably. It's my main weapon for about 30 hours now.

I wonder if the "Iron Greatsword" is good for Str with Heavy Affinity?

I currently use a Heavy Zweihander with B scaling, but thats collosal

As tip for faster attacks in case you are not aware, use jump attack

I also used the Lordsworn Greatsword for quite some time. Around 30-40 hours in I found the Knight's Greatsword to drop from one of the Godrick knights. The KGS has better dex scaling, but works well with quality or strength affinities.

If GS is too slow for you (GS has pretty fast combos) use Club/Mace or Short Sword

Believe it or not, the falchion of all things gets pretty good strength scaling with a heavy ash of war.

If you want a pure STR Greatsword then I would go with a Heavy Gargoyle's Greatsword.

GS actually has the most out of any weapon type (over 20). That said over half of them are boss/unique weapons, and quite a few of them are magic.

If want some normal versions.

The knights carrying greatswords can drop them, as can the banished knights.

The Banished knight one is the probably the strongest non-boss/unique one
I was using the Magma Wyrm's Scalesword as i was doing Strength/faith and it was ok. Its not a slow weapon but its weapon art and 2h heavy attack is pretty meh. I heard the Bloodhounds Fang is pretty good and you can get it early on. There are not a lot of fast strength weapons. But for a Strength/Faith build i would try the Blasphemous Blade but it requires you to kill Rykard.

Personally when i swapped to duel wielding colossal hammers (The Great Hammer and prelate's inferno crozier) that's when my damage saw a massive increase. Using 2 didn't slow me down anymore than 2h one weapon. But my jumping attack and double swing one shots most regular enemies. I also levelled my faith enough to use Golden Vow and Fire, Grant me Strength. I used a Frost version of Royal Knights Resolve on both weapons and i was able to kill Mohg, Lord of Blood before he went into 2nd phase. But this is a build for very late game as the Great Hammer requires 60 strength to 1 hand. You also have to be careful when attacking bosses as some of the later ones have very short windows were you can attack them.

Have you tried the misercorde? after using GS for most the game, i eventually had to swap to daggers and curved swords to get more than 2000 Damage per minute?

On a more serious note though, the easiest one to get would be Claymore from castle morne, i prefer the flamberge from castle redmane (a STR greatsword with innate bleed?!)

Edit: You can also get the Dismounter curved greatsword from Kaiden (vikings)
P.S. Powerstancing falchions would be the way to go if you can dodge and/or parry though.

Flamberge is mainly a dex weapon.

just slap heavy for quality infusion on it

Flamberge isn't a very good STR weapon. If you use the Heavy Infusion to make it STR then it only has 55 bleed which isn't enough for you to really ever see a bleed proc actually go off .

I am doing right now simultanousely 2 runs :
* one as a magician, no need to detail it
* one with colossal swords. I speed runned to get "The Greatsword" from Caelid
Timings are indeed tough to pull. Poise break potential not oustanding yet.
It's purely a technical run, to feel these weapons against fast bosses. Absolutley not fun right now.
The second piece I'll power stance with it is : WATCHDOG'S GREATSWORD
And I'll jump-bomb after a 10s buff with "Royal knight's resolve"

Unlike my runs with dual uchis, I have to actually understand way better the bosses and ennemies patterns. A humbling experience.

Gargoyles Great sword can not be made heavy.

Yes it can. I used it for a good portion of the game. It isn't a unique weapon.
