Make the lantern automatic
Just make the lantern a permanent equippable once the player has obtained it (visually) and make it so it automatically turns itself on/off depending on the lighting condition like every other game does.

Theres no point an having the player go in the inventory or hotbar to turn it on/off, makes more sense for it to be automatic.

EDIT: Some people are taking this way more to heart than they should, also nice funny replies.

I don't, which is why it isn't on quick access slot.

I just don't see how it'd be negative if people could toggle it on/off as needed.
I have literally seen fruit that makes you vomit blood get nerfed due to people crying "but it grows on trees!", in a game that starts you out with a star trek replicator that also turns animals into sports bottles by moleculrizing their skin and bones into the bottle. Then you get a knife that perfectly cooks animals to death when you stab them once. But no, no, gotta nerf the literally toxic fruit.

Faux hardcores are terrified of anything that even SOUNDS convenient, regardless of actual effect.

See also: People who are proud of their aging wrist carpal tunnel risk and keep pissing themselves crying "an in game map!?!?!!? REAL gamers only write on grid paper!" Yeah, makes me want to beat them over the head with an oldschool instruction manual I had to read page X paragraph Y for NPC dialogue due to a combination of storage limits and copy protection gimmick.

I think Anzaman is saying they just want it to be a persistent toggle on/off because it turns off if you die or fast travel.

I can definitely see that being a thing which would suck, but thats is just people complaining about something being "overpowered." The equivalent for this game would be people complaining about Scarlet Rot and then FS decided to nerf it due to people not understanding the point of the effect/how to avoid it.

Well the real issue there is that player defense/resistance is trash even when you go all in, and only the PvP drama queens are pretending it is worth a damn (between U turning to declare defense/tactics/spacing/learn 2 parry is worthless to even suggest in PvP. Then U turning again once the same subject is brought up for PVE).

which ties back to faux hardcore logic. Crying about player damage output lets you pretend you are a big tough guy gamer because "Player deals less damage = inconvenient across whole game".

While a more honest logic of "If you consider status effects tagging you when you dodge in PvP ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, clearly bleed AURAS that do not even need to attack you to stack bleed in PVE are MORE ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, right?" does not get you PvP clubhouse coins to say.

The fact people are arguing against keeping the lantern on through loading/death screens is just sheer idiocy and lunacy.

I agree. I even put it on the 6th quickslot for quick use bc damn
as someone playing a Black Knife Assassin themed build, this would be more favorable to automatically turning on, as sometimes I want to sneak past enemies. It would be nice if it would just remember its state on teleport.

The NPC locations "plz where do I find a mod to remove this it is ruining my immersion" posts made me laugh not only for the bad faith dinosaur posting logic.

But also because the NPC icons are usually smothered under grace and location icons anyways, so you still need to use stickers to remind yourself "Wait, where was the merchant selling that one consumable/ammo type, again?"

Honestly they just should, from my experience enemies don't react to light and I can whip out a torch right in front of them and they don't bat an eye, having it on 24/7 isn't gonna hurt anyone like the dumb ♥♥♥♥♥ comparing it to an auto-dodge feature suggest

That's one of the most pointless changes you can ever make. It's a one tick on/off item. Press to use it once and venture through the entire dungeon without touching it and then take it off when you're done. Are you seriously telling me that you use the lantern so often that you need it to be automatic?
Travelling or dying turns it off. Guy and me are just asking for it to not be turned off everytime we travel or die, but instead only turn off when we either unequip it or turn it off ourselves.

Also dying. Sometimes Ill have to try a boss a few times and sometimes the way there is pitch black. When I respawn Im eager to just rush back to the boss. Having to open menu and turn that lantern on it's such a turn off. I know it's a small thing but hey, if they could change that Id love it.

There are some times when you don't want to have it on.
D. Flame Mar 25, 2022 @ 11:23pm
No need to make it auto, just don't unequip it every time I spawn. If I put it on, leave it on until I take it off.
