True, if New World had the combat and lore of Elden Ring, it would be the perfect MMO.
Fallout: New Vegas
Late response, I know.
There is nothing special or unique about ER's open world besides the giant glowing tree that dominates 90% of it.
New Vegas is also pretty weak as an open-world game - it's mostly known for it's better story in comparison to 3 - but 3, overall, had a better open world.
From Soft games play like a perfectly cut together level segments from an indie dev where the story was forgot to put in.
No cutscenes, very little dialogue. It's what appeals to many gamers, but don't kid yourself thinking that this is story. Lore and worldbuilding is not the same as story. All the Souls games have no story or very very little and even other From Games pre-dating Demon's Souls have little to no story or only vague hints at it.
I mean, not to be disrespectful, it's just how they make their games and that's alright. But you can't judge a story that isn't there.
I.e. story = cutscenes...
Elden ring is great, but if you miss dungeons early on there is no real point outside of potential items to clearing them as the enemies are weak and the runes non existant.
I know there are a lot of draugr based dungeons in skyrim, but the same could be said of elden ring and the stone imps, even in the ones that have different enemies in them still squeeze imps in.
That said, elden ring does have teleport traps which is an interesting way to potentially get you in trouble which wouldn't be an issue in skyrim cause of the scaling, so elden ring wins there.
I think elden ring loses to dragons dogma though
And disclaimer before the softboys show up crying about me mentioning skyrim: No, Skyrim is not my fav Elder Scrolls, Calm down.
The story IS there, you're just not into the way they tell the story. There is a big difference. You're being dumb on purpose with this.
"The story is there man they just don't hold your hand about it"
Uh level design is far better in Elden Ring which attaches itself to the exploration. Also combat is pretty much the focus of Elden Ring - so that's a pretty damn big positive in it's favor.
