It's sad seeing how many people say that they gave up their preferred GS or or UGS because the game makes them practically unusable without just spamming jump attacks.
I managed to stick to using a Claymore and guard counters, but Radagon is seriously making me reconsider that.
I've always been a spear/Dragoon fan but so far the only good spear weapon I've found is the partisian and Halberds just don't do it for me.
Indeed, it is a lot of builds.
People seem to think if you're not using obscure item A then you're just copying. I can guarantee whatever weapon they are using is a meta weapon as well like dual reapers, dual cross naginata, dual straight swords, sword and shield, double whips, rapier, great fencing swords, etc
That is literally the worst excuse I have ever heard of. I am using arguably the worst weapon in terms of damage output. Dual ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ rapiers. I am doing 200+ damage per weapon on maxed out upgrades and 50 dex. And the only boss I had a hard time with is Malenia.
I still beat the rest of the game with my rapier build. And it was absolutely viable till the end, even if I needed to kinda get good with dodging and rely on my ash more.
Not to forget: We talk about PVP and not PVE here. These people dont go into invasions to fight against trash mobs.
Rapiers are not GS or UGS, and DPS isn't even the main issue.
I was drawing a comparison to damage in PVP. Not based on what a DPS is or what a heavy hitter is.
UGS and GS have 2 major downsides: They are heavy and they are slow.
UGS and GS have 4 major upsides: They are strong, they have a wide angle, they can stunlock and break guard super easy.
UGS and GS are the best weapon you can go for if you suck at fighting single enemies as well as packs. Literally, there is no better weapon for it.
Rapiers have 1 major downside: They suck
Rapiers have... 0 upsides. They actually suck massive donkey ♥♥♥♥.
Rapiers do little to no damage in PVP. Rapiers can be spammed but dont stun. No angle, no range. Rapiers can be outmatched by any bloody straightsword at a lower upgrade level!! Hence why people use those more than they use these bloody Dragon toothpicks.
And yet I still used these "30% of the damage output of a UGS weapon" toothpicks over anything else for my first playthrough. Both in PVP as well as PVE.
Haha called it. Acting like he's not using a meta weapon to disparage other meta weapons.
Great swords and UGS are very slow. You get very few opening to actually attack with them, then you get hard punished for actually using an attack. Low poise enemies can be staggered by basically anything. Even if you stagger an enemy, most can't be stun-locked, they will literally back hop through your second attack, then punish you.
THIS IS WHY SO MANY GS/UGS USERS GIVE UP THE WEAPONS OR SPAM JUMP ATTACKS.
There plenty of better option with wide hitting attacks, including some rapiers. Rapiers attack so much quicker that they actually have higher DPS than GS. They can literally sneak multiple attacks in between individual hits of a boss's own combo. Rapiers are also thrusting swords, so you can literally hold up an shield and be poking from behind it while guarding at the same time.
In PvP, speed over damage-per-hit is even more important.
