I've never understood how anyone could think that Magic makes the game easy
Once you run out of sp mid boss fight or just mid fight you automatically loose.

The problem is if we do run out of FP we're screwed.. if the enemy targets us mid cast we're screwed.. we lack armor to be able to really withstand anything since our stat investment is so stupidly high into int or faith then mind in order to get decent damage and FP.

For sorceries you *need* 80 int asap it changes the game so much once you finally have your damage capped.. Meanwhile melee builds can easily get to like 40-45 str or dex and just stay there and do great damage.

Hilariously most melee builds out damage the magic too..

It doesn't make it "easy" but it does make it easier. There's a big difference. Try a Melee only build and trust me you'll find more difficulty in finding the small openings bosses have in between attacks. And you can't just roll away or you'll do no damage.
I've done both magic and melee builds in all Souls games. Magic is always harder. Melee is so easy to find openings, backstab, or just roll through things. You're very rarely locked into an animation with melee while with casting you're always locked.

Melee also has much higher stagger with just about every attack. So you can typically stun lock most PvE enemies unless they're high poise, which can be countered in other ways. Melee also has a much lower stat investment into str or dex for damage.. so you get a lot more into vigor and endurance meaning you get more HP, more stamina, and much heavier armor for more poise and defenses. As for rolling, typically in these games the best way to roll is *towards* the enemy which ends up with you actually closer to them, evading the attack, and in a perfect spot to start attacking.

Meanwhile the only argument people typically come up with for why magic is "OP" is "YOU'RE RANGED!".. while that's true, the mage also has little to no defenses (even their magic defenses are usually absolutely horrible) and little health as well..

I’ve made it to liurnia of the lakes and stopped my magic playthrough there. Only good spell I had is still Glinstone Pebble and enemies take way to long to kill. Plus you gotta summon every boss and just spam spells from a fa r. Pretty boring.
The best spell you should have when you reach Liurnia is Rock Sling, which should carry you for quite a while. It's very good against bosses.
Hilariously this is the issue.. Caelid is an area you're meant to do *after* Liurnia.. but Rock Sling is extremely efficient to have there because most things there are sorcerers with high magic resistance..

I know the game is open world so you can go practically anywhere at any time, but there is still a general idea of what level you should be in an area and Caelid's is actually higher than Liurnia's.

Or you could just level Vigor you know. Vigor isn't just a melee stat.

Nice job quoting ONLY what supports you. What was also talked about is our stat investment as a mage already being high. We NEED 80 int asap to do even decent damage. We then need about 25-30 mind for decent FP. That's already 110 points total (obviously your starting class will shave off a few of those). While for melee you can easily go to 40-45 str or dex and stop there for a long time and you'd be doing more damage than us mages..

How far have you made it? I started my magic run, 100% Limgrave and Weeping Peninsula and so far it has been brain dead ez with no fear of going oom. Melee 2H Colossal Sword run was a complete joke. Curious to see how late game magic is

Yea I am not super far but a 1/4 to 3/4 split seems to work for me. I think I am 25 mind so far, have 100% Limgrave and Weeping with no FP issues

The early game with magic is fine.. once you get to Liurnia you'll start to see the issues. Maybe even through Stormveil (if you haven't done that yet).

As I've said, melee builds are ridiculously powerful. The colossal weapons on bosses do ridiculous amounts of damage.. or you can go lighter and dual wield status effects and just melt through enemies that way..

Yea Stormveil was a cake walk. I think lots struggle in Liurnia because they refuse to use a melee weapon. I always have a sword on me and any time I can backstab, i do to conserve mana. I think ppl are struggling to understand that your build needs to be flexible.

Magic for the most part sucks in PvP. Most spells are very easy for a player to dodge. It also performs poorly against some bosses, especially the fast and/or aggressive ones that don't give you time to wind up a spell. Or just a small room where you can't get much space.

Yea well.. I played magic first because I just felt like relaxing. Havn't run out of fp flasks once yet. Except occasionally when they're halved in coop but even then has barely happened.

there is so many things/tools you can use I can't believe you gave up on the sorcerer so easily. I haven't tried yet tbh (currently faith melee build) but in all DS sorcerer was viable, some would say op but I don't know. Summon friends or use tanky ashes

I think most are struggling because they think playing a magic build = they can only twirl their staff around and not pull out some good old fashioned steel from time to time.

you can still play full ranged with tank ashes or summons provided you can manage the aggro from time to time. Also fp flask can be replenished/reduced with talisman/tear flasks and other. you can use incantation as support with little faith investment

Magic in Elden Ring (in pve) feels much stronger due to having so many actual int weapons to pick from, so even if you're out of fp you can do pretty good damage. Strength is fun too but takes so long to get a weapon/ash that felt fun (I did not use stomp build). Melee felt like it had issues up till past stormveil funny enough then it got easier but I think that's more due to me wanting to try diff weapons than what were available to me.
